Live Vocal Performances At No Extra Charge! 7/17/2007

When you eat at Sugo, not only do you eat the best of the best...you get the best music too! Two classically trained opera singers serenade the tables at the guest's request. These two ladies both have lovely voices and sing for the customers on a nightly basis. This brings a heartwarming sense to the already cozy atmosphere and is a very special treat for birthdays, anniversaries, and the icing on the cake to an ordinary day! Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere! more

Great food and service 7/5/2007

My wife and I went there for the first time this week. We were greeted by the owner as we walked in and the service from the wait staff were exceptional the entire night. The food was very flavorful and the price is very reasonable. They were doing 3 glasses of wine flight for $6 (white) $7 (red) this week (maybe they do it every weekday) which is a great deal. This is the place to go if you like great Italian food and great service. Pros: great food and service more

Salut! 7/4/2007

I went into Sugo last night and had quite an experience. Greeted by the owners of the restaurant, I was taken care of by the nicest and most professional Slovakian waiter. He and his girlfriend seemed to effortlessly waited on our table and others. I felt as though I was in a european restaurant in the middle of Johns Creek. I had a fantastic Chilean flight of red wines that were only seven dollars. It was their Tuesday martini night, so my wife ordered a six dollar grey goose cosmo that was accompanied by a gift certificate to Salon greco for a free manicure, which she absolutely loved. Lest I forget, the food was one of the best meals that I have ever had. Flavorful, unique, and quite the portion. This restaurant is valued oriented with great food and some of the best service I've experienced. Thanks Sugo! Pros: Everything Cons: Hard to find, behind the shopping center more

Wonderful Dining Experience 7/4/2007

Recently, I dined at Sugo and had one of the most memorable dining experiences of my life. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt as though I had been transported to a cozy european trattoria. The ownership, an Italian father and son were unbelievably accomodating. They were doing wine flights that night (i think they do them all week long) that were quite good especially considering that the entire flight of 3 wines cost $6! The food was fantastic. I had the Lamb Saltimbocca, and it was truly memorable. After the dinner, the owner came over and delivered some complimentary dessert wine to thank us for coming in, which was really nice. The next day I was home remembering how great the meal was and I was astounded when I got a personal email from the owner thanking me for coming in. I can tell you that this place is truly what great restaurants should aspire to be. Pros: Amazing food and Service more

Not so bad but could of been better 7/3/2007

Our experience was just ok. I was sent a coupon that included ""free tapas"". When we presented it to our waiter, he ""sold us"" the most expensive appetizer and told us he could only take 5 dollars off the bill. Our appetizer alone was $20 and when presented the bill later, the waiter took nothing off of the cost of the appetizer. My husband had Frederico's Pork Braciole which he said had no real taste to it. It was a bit bland. I had Aunt Lena's Chicken and thought it was good and flavorful. We would not go back becuase we felt it was nothing to write home about and we kind of felt taken advantage of with the coupon situation. more

A Must Try 6/27/2007

Having grown up in NYC it can be very difficult to find Italian / Mediterranean cuisine in Atlanta that compares favorably with Arthur Ave. or Little Italy, but Sugo does just that. I have eaten at Sugo now three times, twice with the kids and once with the wife ? whether you looking for a great reasonably priced diner with the entire family, or a quiet and romantic night with your special someone I definitely recommend Sugo. Pros: Great Wine List, Interesting and Well Executed Menu more

Great atmosphere, Better service, and the BEST FOOD in town!!!!!!!! 6/26/2007

If you want a great night out on the town, Sugo is the place to go. Whether your a family of 10 or a couple of 2, Sugo has everything for you. From the minute you walk into the door, you're treated like you've gone to this restaurant for years. They make you feel like VIP. You can sit in a cozy corner out of the way of the hustle and bustle, or you can sit down right in the middle of things and get the real Italian experience. I for one like to be right in the middle of a mid-evening rush of customers. Last week I went into Sugo with my girlfriend and another couple. We sat down and had a bottle of nice wine at a reasonable price, and ordered a few of their Tapas, which I believe is the Italian word for ""pre-meal snack"". We had their famous eggplant montasio*, and then an order of their baked stuffed calamari. All I can say is I've never had calamari like this, and I'm hooked. Its not that fried calamari that you get at a Fridays or Applebees, its just perfect. Then we all ordered straight off the menu, well I splurged and got one of the specials, but it really wasn't splurging, because the prices were not outragous. Anyways, the special I had was this wonderful lamb dish with some kind of rolled stuffed pork tenderloin and these wonderful pasta purses. Listen, I could go on and on about each and every detail, but really you have to see it and taste it for yourself. Go in this week or the next and try it out for yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: You havn't been there yet more

Superb service and excellent, creative cuisine 6/26/2007

I generally never write reviews on website like citysearch, but after my first visit to Sugo, Duluth I was compelled to create an account and sing this restaurant's praise. It has great ambience, friendly and prompt service, but most of all, delicious food. This restaurant served up some of the tastiest, most creative Medditeranean food I've had. I enjoyed it so much I took my Italian mother-in-law. She is constantly critical of Italian restaurants, but loved this one. Thanks for two great experiences, Sugo! Pros: Food, service more

Hidden Gem 6/26/2007

Despite its tough location, this place will definitely do well. I had alfredo and asparagus and it was really great. It was italian food, but when I was done I still wanted more! I highly recommend this place. Great place to bring any woman for a first date or anniversary. Drinks were great, the service was great, it was perfectly priced, and the atmosphere was stellar and romantic. When I left I felt awesome and I will for sure be coming back. My girlfriend was so impressed, it made me look so good. I love it. HIGHLY reccomend it for any occasion. Pros: Price, quality of food and drinks, atmosphere, service more

Great restaurant. 6/26/2007

SUPER! 6/26/2007

Me and my buddy Seth stopped by for dinner last friday after our dance class during peek hours and could you believe it there was no wait! We got seated immediately and the cute italian/spanish waiter Edwardo read us the fabulous specials. I orderred a tossed salad with a creamy italian dressing and sausage and meatball heroes to split between Seth and I. The dinner was smooth going down, the atmosphere was incredibly romantic, and after we left feeling totally satisfied. Two pinkies up! more

Amazing Italian Food 6/25/2007

It's a shame that those terrible Olive Gardens have stolen the cheap phrase 'when you're here, you're family"", because Sugo's definitely adds that touch of class to the dining experience that you just don't experience anymore. The wait staff's experienced knowledge and genuine love for the food is immediately evident, while the atmosphere is wonderfully casual. It?s a perfect place for a nice meal out on the town or a casual quiet dinner, and the price point certainly warrants every possible opportunity. more

Great Night! 6/25/2007

I came to Sugo based on a friend's reccomendation with my girlfriend for anniversary. We were not sure what to expect, but upon viewing the great menu and wine list, we got our hopes up for a great meal. It turned out to be much better than we expected. The food and service was excellent, and my favorite dish was the sausage with the carmellized onions, which was absolutely fantastic. Also, if one of the Castelluci's are around ask for some of the special sauce, which turned my side pasta into a delicious entree! The atmospher is very relaxed, and table conversation is very easy, since the restaurant is not too noisy, nor too quiet. We had an amazing night, and I reccomend Sugo to all! Enjoy! more

Amazing Food and Ambiance! 6/25/2007

Sugo is a definitely a hidden gem. Wonderful, comforting service and fantastic food make this spot worth visiting. I suggest the Lamb Saltimbocca--it was unbelievable. Pros: Lamb Saltimbocca, service, and definitely value! more

"Spanakopita and chicken al Sugo are some of the traditional dishes offered in this comfortable, casual Duluth restaurant."""

Owner Message
  • In 1947 Italian born Arcito Castellucci married Sophia Zavanlagos, a girl from Sparta, Greece. As you may have guessed, dinner was an event at the Castellucci household. Rather than decide between the cuisines, they decided to blend both cultures together, creating authentic dishes that represented the best of both worlds.

The oldest son, Frederic II, studied the art of these recipes and once he had perfected them, Sugo was created. Not only did Frederick II learn the secret to making mouthwatering dishes, but he learned the value of a dollar. And as you will see from our menu, he carried that over to his customers.

So allow our family to make your evening special with our authentic cuisine and gracious hospitality. We would love to have the opportunity to host you and your family and let you see what happens when an Italian marries a Greek.
