No way owned by Jamaicans. They were white and sounded like they were born and breed in NC. Worst restaurant experience I have had in a long time. Overly expensive, awful food, obnoxious server, and an owner who does not know when to tell other dinners to keep the f-bombs and other curse words to a minimum. If you want to spend $20-dollars a plate on bland, pseudo-Jamaican food frequented by loud, drunk idiots that the owner seemed to cater to considering she was buttering them up all night then this is your place. Caesar salad for 9 dollars, 5 dollars for curried rice that were didn't order but the waitress showed up with it and told us if we didn't like it then she wouldn't charge us. This is not authentic Jamacian food by any means. Do not waste your money and stick to the burger joints and seafood places on the island. Pros: Decent parking Cons: Everything! more

The Sugar Shack is a fun place to check out. The owners are actually from Jamaica and their food is very authentic. They have live music on certain nights which livens things up a little. We love getting the sampler plate because there are so many good things it is hard to narrow it down. During the busy season get there early, its a small place and the seats fill quickly. Easily the best restaurant in the Ocean Isle Beach area. If you like Carribean style food, then this is the place for you. Food wise, for appetizers, they serve Jamaican patties, coconut shrimp, pumpkin soup, just to name a few. If you're not familiar with Jamaican food you can order a Jamaican sampler to get a taste of everything. For entrees, they serve jerk chicken, jerk pork, jerk ribs, curried goat, brown stewed chicken, cod and crab fritters, etc. These entrees cover the classic Jamaican cuisine. They also have some unique dishes with a Jamaican twist, such as a 24 ounce steak that is out of this world. They even have Jamaican pizza! They give enourmous portions for your money. So needless to say you get your money's worth. They also have live entertainment on the weekends. So bring your appetite!!! more
