Be Grateful 6/16/2010

Good: It's very versitile. What ever your needs or expectations were they would accomodate if it was in your best interest.. Bad: The Norm...not being able to be at home with the ones I love, althought I did make new friends. All in all I had no complaints. Improvements: none. keep up the good work.. Other: I want to thank Substance Abuse Foundation of Long Beach for being being thier for me. It means a lot to me...the part you played in my life then...it was real! thank youMaybe if others would focus on themselves as much as they do others, they would have gotten out of it what they needed as so many of us have. Keep it in its proper perspective, it's about yourself not them. God Bless us all!. more

LIFE SAVER 9/29/2007

It sounds to me Song R. wasn,t able to get S.A.F. to change there entire program to fit his wants. He is correct about graduates managing this program, anyone whos been around recovery knows that a verry high percentage of rehabs are ran the same way.So us in recovery know this person is a complete moron who was unable to get sober. For those of you who are unfamiliar don,t for a second believe a word of this nonsense.I am an S.A.F. alumni I am a recovering heroin addict I entered S.A.F. 1997 with the clothes on my back tired of spending my iife behid bars i was never able to stay out of prison more than a month since age of 19 also spent a good amount of time in the juvenile system. I was state raised all because of a drug addiction I started at 16.Ill cut the rest short I have not been back to jsil since walking through the doors of S.A.F. I had no job skills when i arrived i am now self employed thanks to all S.A.F. had to offer . I myself was an S.A.F. employee for two years. At that time they had well over a million dollar annual payrole a lot of which went to parolees. I owe my life to S.A.F. Need I say more. So please don,t let this Song person mis lead you. more

Response to Song R. comments on the Substance Abuse Foundation of Long Beach 8/29/2007

Mike G. says: It sounds like Song R. has a negative appraisal of most social services agencies–it maybe he has been in most of them and his life is not going well. To blame and scapegoat is a typical response by people who have failed attempts at recovering from addiction. In addition, (although not surprised) I am puzzled by Song's attack on the Substance Abuse Foundation of Long Beach and his claim of corruption. Most people I think praise people for being survivors and having jobs. As for those staff Song claims are using drugs, I seriously doubt if they allowed Song to drug test them. Song’s rhetoric sounds a lot like the kind of angry and judgmental person who has had multiple treatment failures, and in order to avoid looking at “the beam in their own eye,” they blame others for their suffering and failings. more

Bad Administration 11/27/2005

A shamelessly corrupt organization managed by felons, drug users, and HIV infected employees who are former clients of the agency. They are bottom-dwellers, unconscionable, and some still use drugs. A sorrowful testament to just how little in the way of talent, intelligence, and morality it takes to manage a social service agency. Even for nonprofits, this is a new low. more
