I lived in Stuy Town for two years, and for the most part think it's really great. The apartments are completely redone and really nice, and rents have come down considerable since the financial crisis (unfortunately I missed out on that). It has a great neighborhoody feel since it's not right on the street like almost all apartments in NYC, and many other cool things: basketball, volleyball, ping pong, bocce ball, water fountain, and a great lawn where tons of people come to sun in the summer. It's great for families too, since kids run around together and feel really safe. I just moved out because I didn't want a roommate anymore (and rent was too expensive at rate I was paying). The only other negative think I can say is that they charge a ridiculous amount of money to open your door for you if you are locked out ($50).
