Studio Tan

I first heard about them from a coworker, who suggested the airbrush tan because she had two good experiences with them. I was on vacation this past week and thought it'd be a safer way to have some color as I typically burn in tanning beds. I scheduled my appointment for 6pm last Monday. I arrived 10 minutes early, and stood waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence. Instead the owner was busy flirting with the 20-something in line ahead of me, and trying to set him up with the woman who came in after me. They finally asked me to have a seat and said they'd be right with me. At about 6:15 my appointment started. And by that I mean the owner took me on a ""grand tour"" of her salon. Explaining that they just went through a bad fire (which is awful), but they're trying to put it back together. She then showed me all of these hoses she uses (for what I don't know) and started making inappropriate jokes about the size, length, girth, etc of EACH ONE. I can appreciate a good dirty joke, but not from a stranger who is supposed to be guiding me through my very first spray tan experience. We finally got to the room I was going to be using. After helping her set up some sheer curtains in the doorway so I could disrobe, she left to get her equipment and I stood there waiting. At around 6:30 or so she apologized for how long it was taking and asked if I was pressed for time. I tried to politely say it was okay but told her I needed to be done by 7. I had a few questions because it was my first time and I feel like she totally ignored me. She actually said ""I've been doing this for 13 years you don't have to worry."" For one, I was just recovering from a sunburn a week prior, so I had some uneven skin and I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to look weird. When I tried to ask her about it she said ""don't worry, I know what I'm doing."" Sure enough, all of the areas I was concerned about turned out splotchy and a lot darker than the rest of me. Also, the only thing she said not to do was shower or sweat for 12 hours. I successfully avoided both of those things but the second I started to apply sunscreen the spray tan started to smear. This might be a typical thing that happens with spray tans but let me just state again that it was my first experience and she explained NONE of this to me. After I dried off in front of a couple floor fans, I went to get dressed. Only to find she hadn't grabbed my shoes. And she was in the spray tan room with another customer by the time I needed them. I asked the girl up front about it and she laughed and said she'd get them. After I paid I had to remind this girl again that I needed my shoes. Now I'm out $50. My tan looked good for about 12 hours and after that it got splotchy and uneven. And the tan on my legs lasted maybe 2 days before my pasty white showed through again. I won't be back. more

I love Studio Tan! However, putting the hours of operation up on the website would be extremely helpful! I have very limited time to come in and tan, so being able to look up the hours would be, like I said, Helpful! more

I tanned at Studio Tan back in 2009 and when I returned I was more than impressed. They have done a great job of redecorating and improving the salon! I recommend this get away to anyone. The spray tanning is something I was never interested in but after jill sprayed me I can not understand why I did it sooner. It is a very welcoming atmosphere and I felt right at home. There beds have never left me disippointed even under the basic package which is also a great price!! more

Studio Tans prices are affordable & you get expert personalized service. I drive from Eden Praire, where we have a tanning salon on every corner. I Love the custom Airbrush/SPAY Tanning!! But before go have it done- EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE & after the more you MOISTURIZE, the longer it'll last and the more even it'll fade. My husband and I have been tanning at Studio Tan for over 10 years, even when Jill was in her old location. We enjoy the relaxed atmoshpere, the clean beds and the friendly staff. I would, and have recommended Studio Tan to many friends. We will be going again this year prior to our annual winter vacation to a tropical location. Thanks Jill for many years of wonderful tanning! Full-service salon specializes in personally applied sunless tan best spraying in town. Ultraviolet beds bulbs are changed regularly Great tan for your buck, haircuts, Colors and styles, waxing. I would highly recommend Studio Tan to everyone in the area. The salon has a great atmosphere and always clean. They have the largest selection of tanning lotions that I have ever seen. Never have I felt pushed into purchasing lotion. Staff is very knowledgeable in explaining the benefits of the lotions. Best place ever to have a wedding party get ready for your special day. I went to Studio Tan for the airbrush tan hoping to get a little color on my legs, arms and face. I couldn't believe how great it turned out. I looked even better the next day. I had so much fun while I was there. I thought I would feel self conscious. The girl was funny and made me feel totally comfortable while she was spraying me. I will definitely try it again for my wedding. Pros: I liked the whole experience. more

I would highly recommend Studio Tan to everyone in the area. The salon is beautifully decorated with a great atmosphere and always clean. They have the largest selection of tanning lotions that I have ever seen. Never have I felt pushed into purchasing lotion however always do as the staff is very knowledgeable in explaining the benefits to me. The beds are extremely affordable for the quality you are receiving. The bulbs are changed on a very regular basis. This place is beyond disgusting. I have never actually taken the time to write a review on any business, but made it a priorty to put my experience at Studio Tan in writing. The place is pure trash and former reviews are 100% accurate with regards to the pushy clerks (both of whom are part owners) trying to push lotion. In fact, they start to upsell the lotion while spraying you in a shady room in the back. Further, the machine they use to spray your entire body is literally an AIR BRUSH (the size of a pen). I would suggest ANY other place in the area (Solar Planet, Body Glow, Tropical MN) over this absolute hole in the wall. Oh and also be warned of their shady pricing where they add on tax and expect a tip on top of that. more

I completely disagree with the last two reviews. I have been going there for almost 5 years now and have had nothing but great experiences there. I tan as well as do the custom spray tanning on a regular basis. I did the airbrush tan for my wedding and it looked absolutely flawless!!! I had a few tan lines and they were gone in minutes! They never pushed anything on me, they just suggested the best products to keep my tan looking great! I noticed a huge difference when I used the suggested product versus not using it. They have product to fit everyone and everyones budget. All of the staff including the owner are very personable as well as knowledgable. The atmosphere is also very warm and inviting, everytime I go there I feel like I am welcome. I recommend this salon to all of my friends and to everyone out there. I have been tanning at Studio Tan and other tanning salons for awhile and i do have to agree that they are very pushy and make you feel less important if you do not buy lotion i also had a bad experiance with spray tanning i heard they were one of the best but that is not what i got my tan was blotchy and very uneven i would not suggest this tanning salon to anyone more

Was in a hurry and even though past reviews (which are suspisiously missing today) gave them bad reviews - it was the closest to my house. But like those missing bad reviews I agree that they are not nice and are very pushy and somewhat 'fake' in their attitudes. If you do not buy much they become snobbish and have little time for you. Found a better place just down the street - try that. more

My experience with Studio Tan has been completely opposite of the last reviewer. Never once was I told by any gals at the counter or the owner in particular that I needed to buy lotion. How ridiculous!! In fact compared to some other places I've been, my experiences there have been really exceptional actually. I've always been greated with a smile. The place is absolutely spotless. Prices are LESS than most others in town. Her bulbs are awesome. And regarding spray tanning, I think I read that Jill is THE top airbrush tan applicator in the Twin Cities bar none. I think its the best place in Hopkins to get a tan to be honest. I really like the place. Highly recommended. more

Extremely clean, clean beds, the owner was highly professional, extremely knowledgable, friendly and approachable for tips on skin type and recommendations for best tanning. Always on time for appointments. Calm, rejuivanating atmosphere. I will loyally frequent, and highly recommend. more

The spray tan is one of the best services out there. Jill hand sprayed me for many events and I have truly been happy with the results! I would highly reccommend the spray tan to anyone who needs a healthy tan. I also alternate with the Sun Star bed to keep a good base and always found the beds to be clean and bulbs to be hot. I have always found the atmosphere to be very up beat and the staff has always been friendly and accomodating. I have never had a bad experience with Sudio Tan & I have been a client there for the past 8 years. I always reccommend the salon to everyone I know! Studio tan located In hopkins, I have used this service for tanning for pageant competition, It looks beautifull!! I have always had a wonderfull experience with all staff, They really know there how to make you feel welcome, never had a bad experience!! I love the services they offer..
