Disappointed 3/29/2010

I went for my 18th birthday with my mom and boyfriend. My boyfriend is into all the rap songs, and when we went he didn't even know but like 5 songs. I am the dancer of the family, so i thought it would be cool to go to a club and just dance the night away. Not knowing the music was hard, I can dance to anything though. We smelt weed coming out of the bathrooms which was distrubing. The ladies paid $5 and my boyfriend had to pay $20. It wasn't really worth the money or the drive. So for my first experience, it wasn't what i thought it would be. Now since then I have been to other clubs and studio 72 has to be the worse mess i ever thought of. Pros: smoking Cons: everything else more

1.5 Years Later and I'm Still Mad About Studio 72 8/13/2009

Studio 72 should be ashamed, charging people as much as they do for a venue and experience that is clearly not worth it. While visiting Atlanta from Chicago I had the unfortunate experience of spending a Saturday night, October 6th, 2007, at Studio 72. My husband and I paid a total of $40.00 to enter a night club that was in a strip mall. That is a bit unusual for us, perhaps because there aren't any strip malls here in the city of Chicago but whatever, $20.00 per person as entrance fee is a rate standard that I can agree with depending on the venue. Studio 72 however, should be charging no more than $5.00 per person, at $20.00 per person; you are just ripping people off. To justify my negative feelings towards my experience at Studio 72 besides the cost of entry, were the cost of the cocktails, the sparsely stocked bar, the condition of the bathrooms and the overall condition of the establishment itself. My first choice for a cocktail was a Dirty Vodka Martini. The bartender quickly informed us that she couldn't make one because she did not have olives or olive juice. I thought it was a little strange but I quickly got over it. We proceeded to order drinks for ourselves and two of our friends. Tip included, the total for one round was $51.60. I could not believe it. I understand upscale venues and I feel very strongly that you get what you pay for. However, Studio 72 is a far cry from upscale and yet we paid $51.60 for 4 drinks to be served in plastic cups that were so small that the lemon in my Citron Soda was larger than the actual cup itself. Not to mention that the drinks were severely watered down. For the sake of it being too late to travel anywhere where else, we stayed around, ordered 2 more drinks, a Citron Soda and Vodka Redbull, paid $26.00 for those and continued to find issue with Studio 72. In the women's bathroom, the stall doors were being held up by ELECTRICAL TAPE. $40.00 to get in, $77.60 for a total of 6 watered down drinks and there is ELECTRICAL TAPE holding up the bathroom doors. The electrical tape also served as door handles for the stalls. There was water or wetness all over the floors and one of the stalls had a BUCKET, not a trash can, but a BUCKET, next to the toilet that was overflowing with sopping wet paper towels, napkins, toilet paper and a glass. I cannot convey in words how disgusting the bathroom was. I had NEVER seen anything like it in my entire life. I took a picture so that I could add it my review of Studio 72. (To see the photo, go to Google Images and search for "Studio 72 + Stall") What I find the most disturbing is that fact there are media people actually writing positive reveiws about Studio 72. Are they getting paid to do so or did I just happen to go to a different Studio 72? With the exception of the lobby, I saw nothing that looked as plush as the website photos. Like the filthy bathrooms . . . .why weren't those on the website? For those of you that know motorcycles, I ride a honda VFR 800 that I change the oil and filter on myself. I am a black woman that is not afraid to get her hands dirty yet I refused to actually use the restroom at Studio 72. I held it until I returned to my girlfriend’s home. At this point, I can think of nothing more to say about Studio 72 except that it is a rip off. There are simply scamming people out of there time and money. Pros: Nada thing! more

Get in free for b'day party is a scam 7/31/2009

2 girls were brutalized and 1 arrested just because the bouncer would not let them in the club. Their names were on the list for a b'day party but the bouncer wanted them to pay to get in. They were throwing on the ground, against the pole by cops. The girl who got arrested was only trying to help her friend up. DO NOT GO TO THAT CLUB IT IS NOT SAFE. They treated those girls very badly. DO NOT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I give it 1 star because I couldn't post the comment without it. that club deserve to be closed down. Cons: DO NOT GO IT'S A SCAM!!! more

Bartender Stole my Credit Card Info.. 4/17/2009

DO NOT go to this club! This crackhead hellhole sits between a laundry mat and a Dollar General. I had a few overpriced beers and left, only to discover the next day that my debit card info was stolen by the bartender. Someone in Ohio stole $1000 out of my bank account. Pros: Nothing Cons: The Credit Card Fraud... more

Total Disaster 2/28/2009

Let me just say that I do recommend this club for anyone. I just had my birthday party there and it was a total disaster. Basically I paid for service that I did not get. I paid for a v.i.p. room and didn't even have my own waitress. The DJ really sucked. They were promoting some reggae night and when I specifically asked if they were going to play reggae all night they said no, but of course they did it anyway. They told me to move all my guest to another room to hear hip-hop and of couse everyone in the club was in this room ( all 30 people who came to the club) because no one wanted to listen to reggae. Seriously we can go to the Royal Peacock for that, if it's still open. But i suggested that they swap DJ's because the rest of the club was empty, they said no. When I asked for some of my money back because my birthday was a total disaster, they said no even though I did'nt sign any contract. Just pure unprofessinalism all around. So to sum it up i will have to contact someone else to see if I can get some results. Bottom line DO NOT GO TO THIS CLUB EVER!!!!!!!! Pros: None Cons: Everything more

Pure Disappointment 8/10/2008

To keep it short and sweet... The drinks were OVER PRICED & WATERED DOWN. It took 3 bartenders to get me a diet coke that did not have too much carbonation. However, they still couldn't get it right. Had to switch to Coke. The HVAC needs to be repaired or upgraded. It was soooo HOT in there, we were sweating after 30 mins (without dancing). Too 'hood-ish' for me. However, the crowd did get a little classier after 12:30am. No where to sit down, even at the bar! Unless you want to drop several hundred dollars on VIP seating, which is between the dance floor & bar. I WILL NOT GO BACK!! Pros: contemporary Cons: over priced drinks, needs a/c improvements more

Studio 72 8/4/2008

The grand opening was very nice. Some where since then the club has took a turn for the worst. It went from a nice upscale type to a straight hood club. Mr. Dupri please get your club back intact. Pros: Pretty Woman Cons: The crowd is very hoodish more

A Diamond in The Rough 7/22/2008

Well I just celebrated my birthday at Studio 72 and yes, it was shocking to me that it was in a strip mall but as I have noticed a lot of Atlanta clubs are in strip malls. Essos, Velvet Room, Strokers, Dreamz is at the mexican flea market. And I am sure that Jermaine Dupri had a reason for that location. Anyway, it took a minute for me and my party to get in because of the long line but I couldn't complain because I spent $150.00 for 20ppl and I got a table with a btl of champagne so I could not complain, you know? The dj was ok but I think they switched djs that night because at about 1am, I was partying. I didnt know they stayed open until 5am. They need to promote that more. Security was a little strict. The bathroom needs a little more and the food I ordered took too long. It was too hott and they need to fix the a/c. My waitress was ok, she really wasn't attentive but she got me drinks and I got drunk. It was a great party for me and I suggest that everyone celebrate their birthdays there. I also like the guys that walk around with no shirts. Pros: Guys with shirts off Cons: A/c, long line more

JERMAINE PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW AND MAKE THE NECESSARY IMPROVMENTS 7/13/2008

First this club has 7 reveiws on this site. 5 of them are terrible, but they still are listed with 3 1/2 stars!? This place should get 2 stars or less by anyone who isn't just on hear trying to help the club's likeability. Let me say that I am from Atlanta. I had never been to this club, but had company in town. I embarrased myself, and all of Atlanta by doing this! First, we were hustled in the parking lot by the valet staff. They couldnt decide if it was $20 or $10 to park valet. Second, we were bored to death in line by one of the door people trying to be a comedian by making vulgar and dry jokes. Third, when we entered the club, we heard two different sets of music going on. One was from the 'DJ' (if that's what you wanna call him) and the other set was from a private party going on in a separate (but open) room next to the bar. It sounded like two high school kids trying to compete to see whose music could go the loudest. I went to the bar, where the bartender was very rude. I told her I wanted two long island ice teas, she brought back two drinks and told me it was $27!!!!!!!!! Sorry, but Strokers nightclub has the best long islands for $5 all night! And the Irish Pub has them for $7 and they are bigger than both Strokers and Studio 72! So whats really going on! Is JD huring for money? If not, is he trying make his patrons hurt for money? What's good? Then when I told the bartender that I didnt want the drinks if they were that much and I wasnt going to sign the receipt on my credit receipt, she got smart and tried to call a manager. The manager didnt even come over! Then she actually charged my card, without my signature! I disputed it through my bank and got the money back! We tried our luck at the other bar to see if we could get a drink menu. Sorry. Rude waitress there too! She wouldn't give me a drink menu or tell me the name of the drink that she had just fixed for another patron. In total, we were there for about 40 minutes before we left! Pros: The feeling you have before you get there Cons: Everything that happens once you're there and the disgrace it brings to the 'A' more

Hot Spot 6/23/2008

I was shocked to see the location of the club. Its between a Dollar General and a Laundrymat. I am glad to say I ignored the location because the club was hot. Its really nice with a lot of vip rooms. Its different from all the clubs I've been to. I guess its a must see club in my books. Check it out for urself. Pros: Lobby, Chocolate Room Cons: Unorganized Door entry more

sub-standard 4/21/2008

Poor location, nice lobby but mediocre inside, super over-priced drinks (I paid $12 for a watered-down drink in a small plastic cup), avoid on fridays (unless you dont mind feeling like your at a high school dance). I honestly expected more from JD, especially the location. He had to have just financed it not really playing an active role in this, because it wasnt well thought out. Will never go back again...and I got in free. (Now that's just sad). Sorry...just keepin it real. Pros: none Cons: mainly the location and overpriced drinks more

Definitely not worth the hype. 3/28/2008

The good thing about Studio 72 is that if it's your birthday you get a VIP table with free bottle of champane and 19 people on a guest list. BUT first of all, I really expected someone as notorious as JD to pick a better location (perhaps in the city) and not next door to a Dollar Genaral. 2), the night just started off wrong when the lady "bouncer" basically molested me and my friends upon entering.. im not talkin normal brush down, I mean groping (underneatth bras, super pat downs, take EVERYTHING out of your purse.... and you can't even take cameras in so be aware, they will make you go back to your car). Yeah sure, the lobby is nice, but you're there for 2 seconds. The VIP tables don't have velvet ropes or anything so random people will just be sitting in your space throughout the night. We saw our waitress maybe 3 times, you're better off going to the bar. Drinks are very overpriced for the size also. Maybe Saturday night is better but 95.5 The Beat must have sent their worst DJ and there were far too many minors (our mistake for going to an 18+). WAY to many girls, and not enough guys. The guys that were there, not cute.... And girls there are borderline hoodrats. Overall experience, two thumbs down. Pros: Free VIP on birthdays Cons: music, crowd, expensive drinks, location more

DONT! DONT! DONT! DONT! DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE OF STUDIO 72! 3/17/2008

I heard so much about this "club" that I really thought it was suppose to be a hotspot for young people to experience the fabulous life. Well on the contrary it was so passe.I flew in from NY and wanted to visit the infamous Studio 72. Driving down and coming upon this club at a strip mall made me almost want to lose my mind as it was discreetly nestled between a Dollar General Store and a Laundromat. But I tried to keep my wits about me. I walked in with my best girlfriends and paid $20 to see a beautiful lobby leading me to believe that on the other side of its doors was the place of all places to be in Atlanta or shall I say Tucker, GA. Even if it was reminiscent of Studio 54 I knew it would be off the chain perse. Well what word am I looking for to describe this "club" other than...GHASTLY! I mean I thought I would be wowed by the scenery, the people, the atmosphere, the dj. Instead I was Ughed by the entire experience. If I wanted to go to an below average to average joint with a dj who was whack I would have went there and paid maybe $2.00 in WEST BUBBLEFXXK! However I paid $20 for first class and received ...whats worse than coach? We stayed and hour too long but once we left we breathed a sigh of relief! So I write this to say if you have nothing better to do and you like wasting your time this place is not even up to your par! You might have better luck at the Dollar General next door. At least you can find what your looking for and it will cost a dollar! Cons: Misleading lobby and advertising more

Studio 72 a disgrace...I can't believe Dupri would attach his name to a club like this....horrific 3/16/2008

I give this club 2 thumbs down. If you are looking for a ritzy club then do not go there. It is situated in a strip mall beside a dollar general and a laundromat...need i say more. The music was very whack...I thought that the music was very one-sided, meaning down-south music all night. I'm from nj and I was hoping to hear a mixture of music but didn't find it there. The club was full of underdressed and pretentious people standing around looking to see who was checking them out. If you like listening to the same music that you can hear by tuning in on your fm dial go there. If you are looking for a mixture of music and dj's that play music that isn't on the radio every three minutes don't go there. more

HECK NO!!!!!!!!!!!! 3/16/2008

This is not the place to be as a visitor of Georgia. 1) "When to Go JD himself hosts on Saturday nights. Look for theme nights during the week." MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENT. 2) The ratio of women to men is like 10 to 1 and the men are not even worth stepping to. 3) THERE IS NO DRESS CODE - the men stepped up in there with sneakers and jeans. 4) MUSIC IS STRAIGHT WACKITY WACK - if the club was in the city JUST MAYBE they would play a mixture of music. 5)They charged $5 for a small bottle of water. 6) the bathrooms were nasty. My friend had to hold the door closed in order for another friend to be able to use the bathroom. 7) Too much smoking Overall, do not waste your time at this club. It is not worth the hype or the $20 paid to get in. The only beauty of the club is the lobby. Pros: Lobby Cons: cost of entry, cost of the cocktails, condition of the bathrooms and the overall condition of the establishment itself. more

Sexiest Place to Dance 11/26/2007

I had an excellent time at this place. It looks very classy inside. I wasn't harassed by immature men like in other places I've been to in Atlanta. Everyone was dressed to impressed. The other females didn't seem like haters and everyone was dancing on point to Jermaine Dupri's instructions. more
