Seemed good at first, but they lie to get your money. 6/7/2012

Let me start off by saying at first I thought I had found a great place. Dr. Strong was actually really good at what he does. His humor and singing are a bit off, but as far as the procedure itself it seems like he did a good job. He definitely knows how to minimize the discomfort of Novocaine shots. It's only been a little over a month since he finished my root canal so I don't know what the long term effects will be as of yet. That is the end of anything positive I have to say about this place. I will NEVER go there again! Nor will I ever recommend that anyone else ever go there. Let me start by saying that before I ever scheduled my appointment I called the office to make sure they were in network with my insurance. I always call and ask this before going to a new place. The woman on the phone told me yes they were. Once I finished my initial procedure (which took about an hour) I went to check out, and the lady had not even run my insurance or checked into my benefits whi more

Why are they even dentists? 12/28/2011

Please don't let your dentist refer you to Oakwood Endodontics. I tried my best to find out how much my procedure would cost me before having it done but I have no knowledge of how insurance companies work. I was told by my insurance company that this procedure was 100% covered but the crown was only 60% covered. As it turns out, the procedure was 100% covered up to a certain amount. Hence, my out of pocket was just shy of $500.00. Since I am not a well off person and I wasn't told how much this procedure would be, I asked Oakwood to share in this overage as Dr. Strong had said when I was in the chair, to let him know if I was going to have to make a choice between having a root canal on the tooth next to the tooth he worked on or losing that tooth, and we would ""figure something out"". On my first call, I was very hopeful that Oakwood would help with my delima and reduce the fees but upon calling Oakwood and discussing this issue several times, I was completely turned away saying that I basicly owed the full amount and they would not discount it at all or they ""would have to do it for everyone"". As a result, now I don't have the money for the crown that I need and I am already having pain in the tooth Dr. Strong worked on, so I'm sure I will end up doing what I should have done in the first place, having that tooth pulled. I can't even get a call back from Dr. Strong to discuss the fees that Oakwood says they are owed. End result, my insurance company is out $700, I am out close to $500.00 and I am going to still lose the tooth that this ""100% paid for"" procedure was to prevent me from losing. If the practice of Oakwood Endodontics was to let patients like me know what their out of pocket expense would be before performing a procedure, then we would at least have the chance to make a different decision if we need to. But of course, then Oakwood wouldn't have gotten their $1,200.00 for a worthless procedure. Never mind the fact that root canals are rather uncomfortable.\r \r Please don't use this practice. more

Finally pain free! 4/4/2011

I had been having a problem with my tooth for over amonth and had been to 2 other dentists and no one could figure out what was wrong. Whe I saw Dr. Davis she listened to what I said and we finally figured out the right tooth! The treatment on that first visit didn't take too long and that night I was finally able to eat dinner without any pain! She even called me that night to see how things were going. I did have to go back a 2nd time to get it finished but had no problems after that visit either. Thanks to her staff for getting me in quickly. The root canal was pretty expensive but it was well worth it. more

Worst Root Canal Experience 5/28/2010

My experience with Dr. Joanna Davis & the staff of Oakwood Endodontics left much to be desired. I've had two previous root canals and am familiar with what is to be expected with regard to root canal treatment. \r \r Dr. Davis is very gruff and neither pleasant nor personable. She did not crack a smile the entire time I was there. The treatment was rough & agressive and I've never had such a painful root canal experience. She & the assistant bickered during the treatment and even ""lost"" a tool while working on my tooth. When the treatment was over, I was given 2 Advil before I left and no adequate medicine for the pain. \r \r Michaella, one of the office staff, asked for the full amount for treatment in spite of the fact that my insurance was being billed. I had to remind her that I did have dental insurance as we had previously discussed and only then did she tell me the correct amount. You would think this might be an honest mistake, except for the fact that she did the same thing on my initial visit. \r \r The next few days were incredibly painful but I was told it was just a normal part of healing. I was supposed to return a few weeks later to finish the procedure, but instead had another dentist complete the root canal. The new dentist gave me the care that was lacking at Oakwood Endodontics & actually called to check up on me the day after treatment. more

Dr. Strong has a real talent / office staff questionable 4/16/2008

Dr. Strong was a really amazing and talented practitioner. A lot of people don't realize that quality dentistry is an art as much as a science (think sculptor, except their medium is your teeth) and a lot of talent has to come together to make a relatively painless and efficient procedure. Dr. Strong's injections were essentially painless for me, and that is the first time I've ever had that experience in a dentist's chair. \r \r Root canals take a long time, but I never felt that I was waiting unneccesarily. I've had two root canals in my life and the first one, while well done and not painful, took a heck of a lot longer and hurt for longer after the fact. This one was as smooth as silk. Worst part literally was keeping my mouth open so long.\r \r As far as the staff, after my ~1.5 hours in the chair, I went to the staff who presented my bill - without insurance applied. When i inquired about it, I was asked if I wanted to wait while they ran it. It made me wonder what they had been up to while I was in the chair. I also wondered if they get anyone who DOESN'T want to apply their insurance to a thousand dollar procedure.\r \r So overall, a fast, and efficient experience with a bit of an odd ending. You choose long-term doctors for their staffs because you have to deal with them a lot. Hopefully, you won't need a whole lot of root canals, and this dentist is the man you want doing it. Pros: Awesome office. Cons: If i didn't have a good understanding of insurance, I'd have been had. more

Horrible communication 3/27/2008

I needed a root canal, and was referred to Oakwood Endodontics. Before my last visit to the dentist I had never even had a cavity, so I was pretty clueless as to what a root canal was. The very first visit there was a misunderstanding, even though I called ahead to make sure they knew the reason I was there, somehow, Dr. Strong didn't know. (?) Well, he couldn't perform the procedure that day so I had to make an appointment several weeks from that day (again). When the day of my second appointment finally came, I went in, they gave me a root canal (which I thought was the end of it) and the assistant let me know as I was walking out that I needed to schedule an appointment with my regular dentist to have a permanent filling because they only put a temporary one in. Surprised that I had to have something else done after that expensive procedure, I asked how much she thought it would be and she said around two hundred dollars. I thought, ok well that isn't terrible, but not good. I then called a regular dentist to get a ""permanent filling"", and she let me know that I needed a filling and a crown that would cost a thousand dollars. The point to my long story is that I would not recommend going to Oakwood Endodontics and if you do, make sure to ask many questions because they don't tell you anything. more

Not Recommended 4/13/2007

Dr. Joanna was not very personable and skilled, however her staff leaves much to be desired. Miscommunication on their part has resulted in charges that my insurance will not cover, leaving me with unnecessary bills due. I will not be returning as a patient to this practice, I'm beyond disappointed with my experience. more
