Great Selection! Best shop around I've been to quite a few other custom car shops but none have it all together like Street Legal. Street Legal has many items in stock in the large show room and anything not in stock, can be ordered in just a day or two. All installation is done on site so your car won't be driven to some garage miles away. On weeknights I usually stop in and check out the crowds gathered in the parking lot, its a great place for car enthusiasts to talk shop. more

Worst business ever. Had a terrible, horrible experience. Wanted HID lights on my car, said that I wanted M-TEC lights but they said they had a brand that was much better and told me to use their brand instead. I said OK, that's where the problems started. Had HID lights installed on my car including high/low beams/fogs, one set failed after 3 months even though I was told they would last longer than halogens and at least 3 years. Fine, maybe I got unlucky and got a defective one. They said they'd order me a new one and it'd be there in 3 days and they'd call me. 3 days go by, no phone call. I call and ask what's going on, they say there's a delay and it'd be there in another 5 days. I wait another 5 days, still no phone call to update me or anything. Another week goes by and they say they'll finally be there in another week and this time they have a tracking number. They still don't call me and I end up calling them to schedule the appointment to replace my defective light (I spent almost a grand on this set up and countless hours troubleshooting now, really wasting my time with them...). Finally they replace it. Two weeks later I start getting errors on my dash again saying the lights have failed again (and one of them is flickering on and off repeatedly), and now not only that but my tail-lights are jacking up too (which they didn't even touch fortunately). Took it to the dealership and they said there's some faulty electrical problems likely secondary to the HID kit they installed. Decided to change everything back to factory and paid again to have them all changed back to factory. Unfortunately, they also decided to epoxy the fog lights into the factory housing and those lamps are no longer removable (even though I was told at install that I could easily go back to factory whenever I needed to). So now I'm stuck with the fog lamps they glued into my factory housing and if I want to replace them with new housings from the dealer it'll be another $300. Wasted money at Street Legal, now wasted even more undoing what they did. Definitely learned a lesson. Terrible experience, terrible customer service. Would not recommend this business. more

Wonderful Experience!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! I typically do not write these types of reviews, but after reading the last post about SLC, I felt the need to share the wonderful experience I recently had with this shop. I too had them install a car stereo, mine requiring custom work in both the trunk and main cabin. Ben listened carefully to what I was looking for and put together a sound system package that met my needs, fit my budget and sounded fantastic. As for the installation and finished product, I have nothing but praise for the work that was done. Great care and time were obviously spent on laying out and building the trunk's speaker enclosure and the end result was simply stunning. The system was tuned wonderfully and has been getting nothing but complements since. I have since gone back to have a Parrot hands-free bluetooth unit installed in another vehicle. I was equally impressed with the shop's professionalism and quality work. If you are looking for friendly service, clean and complete installations, and quality work, this is your place. Keep it up SLC!! more

I’ve done contract work for years for a number of companies, from tier 1 to 3 and corporate/personal one off work, NEVER had the kind of negative experience like that with Street Legal Customs. Prior to this ridiculous experience with Street Legal Customs. I was accustomed to an environment where companies/person often trade principally on their good word and ability to follow through on what they promise, hard work, and integrity. This ended with Street Legal Customs. The suggestion I have is do your do homework, look them up, ask around town, check the better business bureau, how much hands on experience does the management have prior to the funding that opened Street Legal Customs for business, doesn’t take a genius to notice that Street Legal Customs has great friends that have responded in positive and guided ways, ex. A local NBC affiliate, “ vote for the best”, just read the disclaimer, it’s for entertainment, and that’s just what it was entertainment in my experience, the reviews are short and don’t really pertain, look up the Michigan Bar Association, can’t hurt to see the history (and previous firm(s)) that Jay Kalish the lawyer that reps Street Legal Customs has. Oh and was it mentioned Benji is his son. Hmmmm…. The fact I took the time to write this should also speak volumes!!! more

I finally had a chance to check out the new Ferndale location for Street Legal Customs, and I was blown away. It is bigger and more open than their old store, and Ben gave me a look at the install area in back which is 3 times the size. I have nothing but praise for Ben and the staff at SLC. I have done 3 major projects with them & have been happy with the results every time. When I saw the nasty review I had to put in my 2 cents. You can't please everyone, Ben. Rock on. more

I would strongly encourage would-be clients to go and talk to Ben or one of his highly skilled staff members and discuss all details of your install. The remarks about Bens father in this review are partially true, in the sense that yes he is a lawyer, but that’s about as far as it goes. I could not see him yelling at a customer, that is absurd, and highly unprofessional. I have not had the opportunity to work with SLC in a few years, but I fully believe the values that started the company still run deep.Street legal customs respects its customers, and I should know because I am one of them. Street Legal Customs does not respect its customers, and will not hesitate to scam you out of thousands of dollars. My experience with them was horrible, and I would strongly encourage would-be clients to find another place. I went to Street Legal to have a security alarm installed on my car. I didn't know it at the time, but Street Legal was NOT an authorized installer of this alarm. I found this out later on from the manufacturer of the alarm system when they told me my alarm would not function properly. When I picked up my car, they told me there might be glitches and I could return the next day to have them correct. Just as they said, I found many glitches with their installation, including that the system drained my battery so much that my car was unreliable for driving. I returned the next day to have them correct the glitches, and was met outside by the owner's father who proceeded to tell me there were no technicians there and no one would be able to help me until Monday, two days later. He wouldn't give me an answer when I asked him if Street Legal was an authorized dealer of my alarm. I told him I wasn't going to pay Street Legal until they had fixed my alarm, and he began to yell profanities at me, and threatened to sue me, saying that he was a lawyer. He told me to leave the store, and continued trying to intimidate me by saying he was a lawyer and would take me to court if I didn't pay him. By the end of this scene, I was afraid the man would physically assault me. In the end, I had to go to another shop to have them remove the alarm system at a substantial cost. I will never return to Street Legal and would not recommend anyone to them. If you have had a similar bad experience with this company, I would like to hear your story. Please post about it! more
