Stoneground is a respectable restaurant, but too greasy to live up to its reputation. Salt Lake suffers from having no good local pizza establishments, and Stoneground is no excep...

Stoneground - a worthy destination. 11/10/2002

Stoneground has a charmingly warm ambience. The menu certainly looked very good. A lot of traditional Italian dishes, and some creativity as well. We tried the Chili Verde pizza, with red and green chilis, garlic oil, and pork. It was very good, and a great twist on pizza. The prices are a little spendy. I recommend you try it out when youa re in the mood for some good italian. Another fabulous Italian spot is Al Forno's! more

I love it! 7/31/2002

I go to Stoneground at least once a week for lunch. One new favorite that I don't think many people know about is the Pizza Salad for Two - it's outstanding! Their freshly made chips and salsa are amazing, and their Tiramisu is the best in town. I've never had anything at Stoneground that wasn't fabulous. Try the Chicken Chipotle pizza sometime for a new pizza flavor. more

Great for late-night munchies! 6/12/2002

One of the biggest problems with the Utah dining is the dearth of great late-night eateries. There would be many eveningsespecially on Sundayswhere my wife and I would be thinking, "so where the #&$!$* can we go out to eat?" The answer: Stoneground. We came in late Tuesday evening; its the summer semester and there were only a handful of patrons so it was surprisingly quiet. Our waitressTanyawas nothing short of excellent. I had the soup of the day (er, night) : a great-tasting, make-you-sweat spicy gazpacho, adorned with 3 perfectly-grilled shrimp and an edible flower. I had to look around to remind myself this was a pizza restaurant! We ordered two: a Hawaiianwhich had a slightly-soupy sauce. For vegetarians, try out the Vegetarian Pleasure: a garlicky pizza with a pesto-base, smoked mozzarella, red onions, green peppers and olives. Pros: great value, next to Trax Cons: dark parking lot more

Good people, good beer 6/9/2002

This place is great. I recently moved to SLC and was concerned with the lack of chill places to grab a beer and some food where the crowd wasn't a reason to leave. Stoneground has been a saving grace. If you are looking for good people, good food, and good beer, go here. more

One of my favorites 5/20/2002

Stoneground is about the perfect place for a mellow place for grub and a beer. It's a restaurant which allows all ages, but it feels a bit like a bar--two pool tables and ample room to roam instead of being confined to a table. Try the pizza--it's delicious. Pros: good pizza, good atmosphere Cons: no smoking more

Great Food 5/16/2002

This is a great place. The Food is always really good and so is the service. more

  • The Scene
Stoneground occupies a spacious second floor opposite the downtown library. It has a chic, urban feel, with stainless steel and exposed cement, beautiful pool tables and a counter overlooking the street. Family-owned by New York transplants, it's slowly attracting a devoted clientele of families and urban upstarts.

    The Food
For an appetizer, try bruschetta--toasted baguette slices topped with asiago cheese, basil, tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. It serves some of the best pizza around--large, New York-style pizzas come with fresh, creative toppings; the chevre forest-mushroom pie is fantastic. Pastas are also good choices. The penne con cognac, a large serving of pasta topped with rich cream sauce, prosciutto and mushrooms, is hearty and delicious.
