Stoneham Zoo 5/1/2010

The zoo is in need of some T.L.C. My first impression was that is was very depressing, due to the lack of care. The animals that were in captivation seemed also depressed. The flamingos area smelt so bad that it was not an pleasant experience. The monkeys were cute, however cardboards boxes were thrown in for them to tear up for activities???? The area for small children to enjoy petting the sheeps had feces all over the ground. Animals looked like they had mange and the moose was under vets care!!! He was so sickly and pathetic looking, he definitely will leave a lasting impression on the small children!!!!! I am sorry for sounding so negative as I feel animals need to enjoy the wild. I know in their world only the strongest survive and alot of these creatures would not make it on their own. I just think that going to a zoo should be a happy, learning and memorable experiences, especially for children. The soda and candy machines didn't work and the benches, picnic tables were dirty. I sure their are lack of funds. Maybe some type of volunteer team could be set up and focus on making this zoo enjoyable to go too. Thank you more

Maybe a nice place for the tiny tots........but the adults will be bored! 4/7/2006

Its definitely not the zoo we went to as we were growing up. All the animals are gone....no apes....I don't even think the elephant or giraffe are there anymore. They have added some new pathways....along these paths are different sections with new "animals"....if you want to call a lizard or snake in a glass case an animal. Also there are mountain lions, reindeer, jaguars, coyotes (like,,,,we need a zoo to see these....we see them in the city now! :). The flamingos are still there though. There is also an area of eductional displays which the child can touch. I didnt find that the kids found them very "fun" though...... Still, all in all, if you have young children I am sure they will enjoy it very much. However, if you or your kids are expecting a big variety of animals........then head out to the Franklin Park Zoo....which is much, much, much better! more

great for the kids 12/1/2005

this is a great place to take the kids on a nice summer day. they have very good prices and very nice people that work there. the only thing is that there just isn't enough attractions to keep the kids busy for the day. i remember coming here as a chid and there were so many attraction and things to see, but now most of that is gone. most of the larger animals and exhibits are long gone, from what i here though is they are trying to bring some of it back. we will have to see. more

OK Family Day 8/24/2005

I remember going to this zoo as a kid and the polar bear was the best feature. Well the polar bear isn't there anymore and the zoo has gone down hill quite a bit. I think it's worth it to go here when there is a traveling feature like the koala bears. But otherwise, it's just an OK Family Day out. The playground across the street is great! And at Christmastime, they have the Festival of Lights were they decorate the whole zoo and you can walk through at night. They also have food (fried dough, etc) and a train ride for the kids. more

Take a journey through the treasures of the Siereea Madre to the old Southwest and the wilds of Mexico's mysterious mountain range. There you will encounter indigenous wildlife like cougars, jaquars, coyotes,gila monsters. There a touchable barn yard for children so they can see and touch goats and sheep. Then over at teh Dino Dig children can become archaeologists and search for fossils buried in the replica dig site.
