Step back in time 10/5/2006

If you are ever near the Fort Worth, Texas area and want to go back in time, check out the Historic Fort Worth Stock Yards just a short drive from downtown. The area looks straight out of the olden days with brick roads and a mix of shops, restaurants, and bars along the main street. There were even a few people riding along the road on horses when we were there. We walked through a few of the stores and many of them had western (cowboy) clothing, gifts, toys, and memorabilia. I would have liked to have had time to try out a restaurant (or two) in the area – but we had other plans later in the day so we didn’t spend a lot of time in the area. There is a place there called the Cowtown Coliseum that holds rodeos. You can check that out at http://www.cowtowncoliseum.com/. We didn’t see a rodeo – but it looked really neat. Here is an interesting website I found about the Fort Worth Stockyards: http://www.durangotexas.com/eyesontexas/fortworth/stockyards.htm more

  • In Short
Recurrent stops by cattlemen beginning more than 150 years ago created the legendary Stockyards district. Today, cattle drives take place every day at 11:30am and 4pm. Attractions like the Stockyards Livery Stable and Arena, Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and Cowtown Coliseum are among the crowd favorites. Miss Molly's Hotel and Stockyards Hotel offer guest rooms and a hot meal for visitors staying overnight, while the legendary Billy Bob's serves up food and fun at night.
