World's Best Sushi Restaurant 2/27/2011

I recently hosted an event at Steel Atlanta and it was a great decision. The service was outstanding, the atmosphere was wonderful and the sushi was the best I've had anywhere - including Japan! Thank you Kitty, Mike, Matthew, Deven, Jose and the entire team at Steel Restaurant & Lounge Atlanta! more

Good food..mediocre service 3/1/2010

I recently hosted by boyfriends 25th birthday party for 30 people at this restaurant. The manager was great, b/c she did not force my large party to conform to a prix fixed menu and instead let us order off the regular menu. They sat my group in a semi-private area in the back, which was great, b/c it felt like we had a private dining area. The food and drinks were pretty good and came out relatively quickly. My only complaint was the servers we were given (we had bout 4). It could've been the large party or the fact that it just wasn't their night, but 2 of them were generally rude and had a bitter face on the whole night. Our table also saw two of the servers blatantly argue and become catty towards one another at the head of our table, which was very unprofessional. Overall, I'd definitely go back to experience more of the dishes. Pros: Good food, good for big groups, nice ambience Cons: servers were rude more

Love this place and eat here every time I'm in Atlanta 11/30/2009

I eat at Steel everytime I visit Atlanta as my family and I love the food and service. This trip I started with the Dragon Martini and my family enjoyed the Kettle One Cocktail specials (think they offer cocktail deals on kettle one drinks all the time). We didn't have appitizers since we couldn't decide between 4 entrees so we got them to share instead of an app. We had the Vietnaimese Shaken Beef (which I get each visit), the Grilled Tenderloin which I had never had before but will again for sure. We also had the Honey Teriyaki Salmon and Citrus Glazed Shimp. Salmon was great but the shrimp wasn't anything special. When the manager stopped by to check on us, I shared that the shimp was good but wasn't special like the other dishes. He mentioned that the are looking at that and may change it up. It makes sense since the rest of the menu is so great. I've had sushi here many times and love it too, but it was a chilly night so I was in the mood for hot entree dishes. They got us in and fed quickly without rushing us so that we made it to our 8pm show at the Alliance Theater in perfect time as its just down the street. Can't wait for my next trip to Atlanta and my 5th visit to Steel. Pros: Food is amazing, drinks are tasty and service is great more

Astonishingly Good! 10/20/2009

I had a reservation for 12, and it couldn't have gone better. The food was out in a reasonable amount of time, and our drinks were plentiful. The sushi was excellent, and the atmosphere was classy. I'll be going back soon. Pros: Great sushi and the best service in town! Cons: Can get busy, but it's understandable. more

I go for the drinks! 6/30/2009

I go to Steel for the drinks. Yes they have a great selection of sushi (or so I am told by my friends who dine there.) And yes you can get other Pan-Asian cusine if sushi is not your thing. But-- I never go to Steel to eat... the drinks are fabulous and creative, so I go to drink!! Cucumber Martini's and Blackberry Mijitos...lots of fresh, unusual cocktails in a very cool atmosphere. And the Happy-Hour specials are fair. That's what I like! Pros: Bartenders know their stuff! Cons: Not cheap--but most people know that already. more

tasty. not cheap. but tasty. 6/17/2009

this is a ""3rd date"" kinda place. so far, a fairly effective one, too. i like this place. the sidewalk couches are a nice touch. great for day drinking. Pros: good service. friendly staff. tellar food. Cons: not for the faint of cash more

Inventive sushi and great atmosophere 4/8/2009

There are certainly quite a few great sushi joints in Atlanta, but what sets Steel apart is that it is also a great restaurant. The staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, the sushi is delicious and unique, and the bar is a great place to hang out with $5 Ketel One and soda and a sushi roll. The entire restaurant has a great vibe (check out the water wall!) and it's also a good place to take non-sushi eaters because they have rice bowls and other Asian-inspired entrees in addition to the extensive sushi menu. The chocolate volcano cake is deserving of the name: it's a dense, hot, and dangerous way to complete a meal! Pros: $5 Ketel One Cocktails more

Delicious! 4/1/2009

I went to Steel recently with a large group of friends. When I go to a restaurant with a large group, I'm always nervous that the service won't be able to keep up... but that wasn't the case with Steel. The server was friendly, professional and all of our food came out in a timely manner. The chef even came to say hello to our table at one point. Our appetizers were delicious- I almost ate too much before my dinner arrived. For my main meal, I had the sea bass. I love sea bass and this one didn't disappoint. It was very good! I only had sushi as an appetizer, but that small sampling was delicious enough that I'll be back for a sushi dinner soon. Pros: Very fresh! Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

LOVE the Mango Martini 3/29/2009

Great spot for drinks or dinner...service is prompt, menu has something for everybody. Died over the mango martini...has slices of mango in it...YUM! Pros: Great sushi, great drinks, great atmosphere Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

FIVE STARS FOR STEEL 3/26/2009

I've been here two times now. Each time, we had the best experience for dinner. Started off with some great appetizers (highly recommend the Calamari); followed by even better entrees. The wait staff is extremely professional and accomodating. Dessert was delicious!! Great place for a girl's night or a date. The second time I brought my 4 year old and they specialized her meal for her. \r \r Will be back again!\r \r Pros: Food and atmoshere was excellent; loved all of it!!!! Cons: Non to speak of! more

Gorgeous Ambiance! Perfect Hot Spot for Lunch, Happy Hour and a Dinner Date! 1/28/2009

I have tried a lot of Pan Asian/Sushi restaurants in the area, and STEEL IS THE BEST!\r The food is fresh and different, always a pleasing surprise to the palette. The cascading waterfall that ends in a pool, surrounded by comfortable seating is the focal point in this fine dining establishment. The bar is a great place to go on for Wednseday night happy hour specials featuring $5 drinks and complimentary sushi. The service is professional and helpful. Parking is free and literally around the corner. \r \r I really enjoy the Bento boxes for lunch. You get a really nice assortment of food with enough left over to save for an early evening snack! For $2 you can get Miso or Hot & Sour soup added on, which is great for when the weather gets a little chilly or rainy. They also have great noodle dishes for only $9. The portions are huge, so there are always leftovers...mmm mmm GOOD!\r \r After work I stop by and enjoy a drink at the bar. It's usually filled with young professionals all looking to unwind. If I wasn't married, it's probably a good place to meet other singles...there was definately some flirting going on..haha. I know that a single/mingle group meets there on Thursdays and/or Saturdays for drinks.\r \r This place is very romantic and offers specialty menus around various holidays. Valentines day is $70/per couple which is a great value considering I think my husband and I spent close to $150 last year someplace else. \r \r The sushi bar is very cool and a great option if you are dining solo. As you sip on a cocktail, you can watch your sushi be freshly prepared. \r \r STEEL is my new favorite restaurant for 2009! Pros: Ambience, FREE PARKING, Great Food and Service! Cons: Not open on Sunday more

Excellent! 8/21/2008

We really enjoyed our lunch at Steel. The food was unique and perfectly prepared. Not a single complaint and the sushi was perfect. Nice, nice addition to midtown. Pros: excellent food, great service Cons: parking - no access from the garage which means hitting the streets! more

Truly chic new restaurant and bar in Midtown...Finally! 6/11/2008

My husband and I went on Saturday night with 2 other couples and they sat us in this comfortable and spacious banquette. My husband is a wine enthusiast and was impressed by Steel's extensive wine list and how knowledgeable our server was regarding the wines. Our group started with the edamame wontons, something I could never dream up and they were amazing. We ordered the Volcano Roll which we were able to share. It was a California roll covered with scallops and crawfish and had the most unusual and delicious spicy sauce. I had the sea bass which is my favorite fish and It was one of the best I have ever had. My husband had the mandarin chicken which he enjoyed. One friend had a filet that he loved and we all shared the fried rice. I can't remember what everyone else order, but we all tasted each others plates and were so pleased with our selections. The food's presentation was outstanding and the food was perfectly prepared and seasoned. We were so full but after watching the servers bring out desserts we couldn't resist. We shared the chocolate maki roll and banana egg rolls. They were so unusual and fantastic. We were completely satiated as they served outstanding french press coffee table side. We had a great dining experience without the kids and can't wait for a another triple date night out. Pros: The Sea Bass and the beautiful atmosphere Amazing! Also self park or valet in the building's garage. Cons: Not for kids and we could have ordered less since the dishes were plentiful more

Delicious and different Atlanta dining experience! Can't wait to bring more friends. 6/11/2008

A co-worker mentioned she had tried Steel last week and that I had to go. I hopped on Citysearch to read about Steel and was put off by the few negative reviews but my co-worker always recommends great places so 3 friends and I went yesterday. I think those few people either ate at a different restaurant or maybe they are a disgruntled former employee because we loved Steel. We initially went for the $5 martini Happy Hour and the drinks were so good and Tessa, our bartender was so helpful in recommending drinks to try that before we realized, it was time for dinner, so we stayed. Oh my goodness! Our waiter suggested what to order and he recommended that we share family style so we didn't order too much and we found the portions more than ample to share. More importantly, our waiter recommended the shaken beef and we found this dish so flavorful and tender and the lamb chops were perfectly prepared and delicious. We also had the sea bass and it was so fantastic that if I wasn?t already so full I would have suggested we order another sea bass. I'm still salivating over it and need to get back soon to have it again. The atmosphere was fun, sophisticated and such a needed addition to the Atlanta restaurant scene. I eat out a lot, never cook and my friends and I had a great meal, drank too much and found that there is a difference between a martini and a GREAT martini. I will be adding this place into my restaurant rotation and can't wait to try the sushi. Pros: Extensive cocktail menu, amazing food and service you would expect at a nice restaurant. Cons: Difficult to get to since 10th & 14th St. exits are closed - Go down Spring more

Good food, great happy hour but overpriced. 5/1/2008

I'd really love to see Steel make it since I live in the Plaza Midtown. I've been to the restaurant countless times and am generally happy with the food and the service, however, I think their food is a bit overpriced, especially the sushi. I've tried many of their sushi offerings and find that the quality is just not as good as MF Sushi, and if you can believe it, it's usually a lot more expensive (i.e., otoro is 2x as much at Steel). Their entrees are amazing; I've never had a bad dish. Drinks are very nice and reasonably priced and they offer free sushi and $5 drinks on Wednesdays from 5-7. Pros: Nice entrees, good drinks, great atmosphere Cons: overpriced more

not worth it 3/30/2008

I was looking for a trendy scene and good food for Friday night so I figured give it a try since reviews said 'dress to impress'...EHM, NO, this was not the case at all. not only was the crowd blah, but even the manager at the place was dressed blah, I mean come on, if you're going to have an image of trendy, look your best, then I think he should've worn something better than khakis and a tucked in blue and white polo shirt. yes I know I sound pretentious, but I expected more. So on to the service, not only did both of our menus keep falling apart, but when I asked for another, the manager just tried to tuck the pages back in, only to fall out again and yet he never brought us new ones, I was annoyed. Our waitress must have been new bc she was way too nervous, a nice girl, but very nervous which led to her not servicing well, she even got the cork stuck in our wine and a manager never came over to apologize for it. i'm not asking for my butt to be kissed but a little professionlism would be nice. for the entire meal, we felt we were being rushed, and everyone kept trying to take our plates away, this drove me nuts bc its not like we were there for hours and ordered small, we spent a good amount of money there and the service and food were definitely not worth it. \r \r On to the food, so for starters we ordered edamame (fine, but needed more salt) & the Crabmeat Mango Spring Roll which was yummy. For sushi we got some toro, the mexi cali roll which was a California roll w/ spicy tuna on top, and the shrimp tempura roll - all was good but we weren't wow'd or anything. For entre we shared the Chinese Egg Noodles in Black Bean Sauce w/ chicken -UGH, the sauce was overpowering and the noodles were too al dente so everything just stuck together. \r \r I would never come here again and I would not recommend this place to anyone I know. I know I sound like a B I, but you'd be angry if you dropped over $200 on a mediocre place. WTF Pros: drinks Cons: SERVICE, FOOD, OVER PRICED more

Dinner 3/28/2008

I thought that the food was good enough but nothing great really stood out. It was a bit pricey. We had the seared scallops and spinach which on portion size was right on to what we wanted but most would have been disappointed (1 large scallop and about 5 very small ones). Ambience was really nice. Neat bar (Asian bartender with a bit of an attitude). Nice place to meet people for drinks. Pros: Good drinks Cons: Ambience, Bar more

Exquisite Atmosphere and Scrumptious Dishes 3/26/2008

I arrived ahead of my party, which allowed me the freedom to a refreshing Sidecar Martini at the bar. As I waited, I enjoyed observing the graceful waterfall curtain and the personality of the restaurant. From the moment we walked into Steel to the point of departure, professional service never left our sides. I enjoyed the freshness of the Beef Tartar and our requested Tuna Tartar?created off the menu. (I hope it is on there the next time because it was divine!) I chose the Rainbow Sushi Roll since I had indulged in so many of the appetizers and found every bite better than the first. I have not stopped talking about this wonderful experience and look forward to taking new patrons to try Steel. Pros: Atmosphere, Service and above all...the food. more

Everything was perfect...Atmosphere, Food, Service...Excellent 3/23/2008

Last Thursday, 3 girlriends and I had dinner at Steel for the first time and we all quite impressed with not only the sexxy ambience, but with the well prepared dishes and outstanding service on the part of the entire team at the restaurant. Collectively, we tried various small plates for starters including a tuna tartar which was specially prepared at our inquiry. All of our entress were equally mouth watering...the texture and taste were working for us all. Our servers were friendly and personable and the chef remarkable, which is why I will definitely go back. I nibbled on a slither of my friend's Chilean Sea Bass and I think the next, I want a plate of my own... :-) Pros: Food, Ambience, Service more

A True Gem!!! That you should miss out on! 3/21/2008

Last night I went to Steel for dinner and if I had to use one word to describe my visit, the word would be WOW. The four of us were seat promptly and were started of with the Chicken Stay, Crab Spring rolls, Beef Tatar and a specially made Tuna Tatar that wasn?t even on the menu. Now that?s what called great service. The wine list was exceptional. My entree was Chilean Sea Bass was beyond description. Great can?t even describe it. Our waiter was a perfect ?10? .Please doesn?t miss out on this gem. It?s a welcome addition to the Atlanta restaurant scene. Pros: Everything Cons: There aren't any more
