SOUTH SITE - Rude and unprofessional staff. Patients and families are spoken to in a derogatory manner. Proper translation services are not provided. Patients remain in the ER for days waiting for beds. Once transferred to a room, they are ignored and sedated rather than treated. Extremely unprofessional staff. more

specaltiy clinics 12/11/2006

How would one find out what spec. clinics are availabe or to make an appointment if need be. The phone is ringing and ringing ..then you have to leave a voice mail message and wait near a phone for several hours. Why could you not put some information on your web site and this would not back up the phone system. more

Horrible doctors at northshore, southshore is ok. 8/24/2006

South Shore SIUH is ok. The ER workers are really polite, and helpful. They weren't the best at treating me at first, they tried convincing me I had an ovarian cyst based on the description of my pain I was having, but I told them I was 99% sure it was my gallbladder. After they made me take ultrasounds, sonograms and pap-smears, they finally listened to me that it wasnt my ovaries. Thats a little upsetting that they didnt even care, but maybe all doctors are like that? This was my first hospital experience, and it was just 8 months ago. I was transferred to North Shore SIUH for my surgery and post-op stay, and up there they were sort of rude, and very mild mannered most of the time. When I would be in pain, they took their sweet time getting my pain meds, or wouldnt even show up at all. They kept blowing my veins, and wouldnt listen when I told them the tops of my hands are the best places to put the IV's, so after they blew 3 more veins in my arms, they listened, and did my hand and had no problems, until I went for an MRI and upong going in the machine, my IV got caught on something and ripped out, but the tape was still attached, so I didnt even know it until they hooked my IV up again after I got out, and the fluids were squirting everywhere. In the radiology department, they LOST me. The lady that was supposed to come and get me [I was on a stretcher] forgot to, and then some EMT's had to transfer me to another floor, which turned out to be the wrong one, so they had to bring me back down to MRI and wait to find out where to bring me. I could say so much more, let me just say it was a pain - and it was the main reason I moved out of Staten Island! After my surgery they had screwed up on something, and they didnt even care! I went to the ER one night, they transferred me to north shore again, they kept me for 5 days with no food or drinks, just IVs of fluid - and ended up saying nothing was wrong with me, yet after I moved away from SI, I consulted doctors here, and they've told me how my SI surgeon screwed up - etc etc. Such a horrible experience. Good luck to anyone who has to go there. I wish I had just drove over to Jersey, or Brooklyn or something, instead of having this nightmare experience - all 7 of them! more
