Summary of Veggie Plate 5/16/2010

We got there early to eat lunch before the line formed at 12. I had the veggie plate and chose the fried green tomatoes, coleslaw, sweet potato fries and mashed potatoes. The fried green tomatoes had to be blotted by a napkin, they had so much extra grease on it, but after that, were very tasty. The batter was a bit different, very thick and hard but the seasoning was good. The coleslaw had relish in it and a pickled flavor that I didn't care for, but the sweet potato fries were good. As were the biscuits, hushpuppies and sweet potato fries. I guess it just depends on what you order. Our waitress was a very nice and competent girl that went out of her way to make sure the service was great. I would go back but try some other items. Pros: nice waitress, good sweet tea, good biscuits Cons: greasy fried food, weird coleslaw more

Not recommended. Especially not for groups. 10/4/2009

The first time I ate here it was for breakfast with a friend. The biscuits were good and other food was mediocre. The service was very slow, even though it was not very busy.\r \r The second time I ate here was with a group of 9. We were not able to eat together because they refused to move any chairs citing ""fire code issues"". The two tables we used were on the side wall in a corner, far from any fire exits or exit paths.\r \r I ordered the roast beef, lima beans, and mashed potatoes. The meal looked and tasted like a cheap microwave meal. It was extremely salty. I love peach cobbler, but was unable to eat the peach cobbler--it had a jerky-like texture. No one else ate their desserts either.\r \r Two people in our group ended up with food poisoning.\r \r Skip the restaurant and go straight to the farmer's market. You are better off eating the delicious bakery items, candy, and sampling the fruits and veggies.\r \r \r \r Pros: Across the street from the Farmers' Market Cons: Quality of food, inability to accommodate groups. more

HORRIBLE Service 5/10/2009

Waited for over an hour for food - had to flag down a different waitress to ask for drinks and biscuits - no one ever apologized and then argued when we said we did not want to pay for food my wife did not eat and that they threw away (she had to leave with our 18 mo. old daughter). The cashier said ""you have the find the manager with the bun and talk to her, don't talk to me about it, I am just part time help"". Classy. We were told our waitress ""walked out"" and had to re-order our food from a different person and then our waitress re-appeared. Owner got involved and was nasty to my wife. We will NEVER go there ever again and urge you not to frequent a place that places so little value on the customer. Pros: food is good, but service is AWFUL Cons: OWNER is rude more

Poor seating 8/26/2007

If you go there with a party of more than 3, be prepared for a wait. They only have tables for larger parties on the perimeter and you cant pull up extra chairs because of regulations, or so they say. Also, some waitresses let you substitute items and some won't. I won't be back any time soon. more

worst breakfast in raleigh 8/18/2007

I was shocked by the quality of the food, general atmosphere and price. Waitstaff were friendly enough. But generally nothing tasted worse in recent memory than their hash browns or their coffee. ugh. I can't even think about it. I've eaten there twice. Eggs never prepared the way you ask. Tried their eggs benedict. never tasted a hollandaise that approaches what they are trying to pass off as hollandaise. Whoever thinks this is a an ok eating experience doesn't ever leave the house or is getting paid off by the management. Way overpriced compared to breakfast joints that are far superior around town. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more
