I had been trying to work with the StarTex Title Company, LLC team as I had been told many great things about them and the day finally came. They were able to prove everyone right. I've been in real estate in houstan for over 8 years and I have to say that they were very on top of it. No matter what time of the day or night, they made themselves available not just to me, but to the lender as well as the buyers/sellers involved. There are very title companies who would actually give out their cell numbers so that you can contact them anytime and who actually do answer their phones. So it seems like the 5-stars are from real estate agents and the 1-stars (stark contrast) are generally from homebuyers. I didn't realize when I bought a house I could pick my title company! Not that I would have picked a different one, but whatever. So I had Phyllis Griffin... I just wasn't impressed with the quality of the company's work. Didn't get any documents after I closed. When I was closing, and I was reading the documents I was signing, they laughed because ""no one reads the papers... they just sign."" While that may be true, if I hadn't read anything, I wouldn't have caught that they got my ADDRESS wrong. I feel like that's pretty important, right? But they were like, ""oh that's no big deal... just cross it out and write the correct address."" So since the address was wrong, the home warranty had the wrong address (took some arguing, but finally convinced them that the policy number was indeed for my house), and now that I'm filing my taxes and trying to get that first time homebuyer credit, I just realized that my HUD-1 shows the wrong address too... need to get them to send me that corrected paperwork they promised when I first brought the issue to their attention... and the second time I emailed them... and called them... more
