It's been a couple of years since I've been to the Star of India on Anderson Lane - I wasn't too pleased with it before - but I thought I would try it again. I decided to take so...

one of my favorites now 5/24/2011

Star of India is also one of the only places I have ever encountered a beef dish, ""Beef Vindaloo,"" which is one of my favorites now. Slow cooked beef and potatos in a spicy sauce. If it's out, and you're into beef, you really should try it. They also have chicken kabob and koufta with onions on a hot plate that is pretty awesome. more

Great lunch buffet! 5/16/2011

Great lunch buffet! $10 gets you an omnivorous variety of dishes. The samosas are wonderfully seasoned and not greasy. Madras soup is rich and complex. Several desserts to choose from. more

BEST food in austin 5/13/2011

SERIOUSLY the BEST food in austin. But no, if you haven't ever had good indian food before, or if you have been scarred by bad indian food, This place will CHANGE YOU. They are so nice and hospitable, and from someone who eats indian food all the time, it really is the best indian food in austin. I am addicted to the sag paneer (spinach and cheese dish), and definitely try the mango lassi! more

Price was reasonable and the staff were easy to work with 4/28/2011

this is where we got the food for our wedding reception. Yeah, that's right, 50+ of our family members and friends were chowing down buffet-style on some awesome lamb meatballs, saag paneer, tandoori chicken (this went the fastest because I compared it to barbecue chicken so it seemed fairly safe to the folks who hadn't had Indian food before), samosas, rice, and naan. Price was reasonable and the staff were easy to work with. I really think we got some Indian food converts by serving our reception guests food from Star of India! more

I can't wait to go back! 4/11/2011

My husband and I stopped in here on a whim one afternoon for lunch. The only thing I knew about the place was that they had a buffet, and I was starving. That was good enough for me. When I first walked in, I thought, "This place is nice." The tables were set with cloth napkins and pretty tablecloths. I suddenly became self-conscious about my casual attire. However, this is Austin and people can dress most any way they want. Their buffet cost $10.99, and it was worth every penny. I tried most every dish, and I was rarely disappointed. Actually, the only thing I was disappointed about was that I couldn't eat more! The service was attentive, as well. The buffet plates were cleaned right away, and my water glass was always full. The owner even made the rounds to each table to ensure that everyone was happy. Everyone was. I feel so lucky to have found this place. I can't wait to go back! more

I know what I like and I like this!! 3/22/2011

Im not a food gourmet, so I won't discuss "northern" versus "southern" or authenticity but..... I know what I like and I like this!! I ordered from the menu and also had the buffet. The food was the perfect in between for spicy and mild. The basmati rice had a hint of clove - wonderful touch. The rice pudding was a must have, as was the onion naan. I recommend the lamb curry. more

Starving, got the kids, go to Star of India 3/17/2006

Star of India is a great family restaurant. The buffet has plenty of stuff, even if you can't handle the spicier things. When ou can't wait for the food to be prepared, the buffet is a plus. You will almost always find delicious lamb meat balls, tandoori chicken, naan, and samosas. This is my wife's favorite restaurant in Austin! more
