Best Indian Food in Town 4/4/2011

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Salt Lake City. The food is amazing and I have taken literally dozens of people there for the first time and they always love it. Favorites are Chicken Tikka Sagwala, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Shahi Korma and the Raita. They also have terrific Mulligatawny and vegetable samosas. The service is always personalized and friendly and the restaurant is always clean. We love going early in the evening to catch a Bollywood movie with dinner. This is a Salt Lake institution that has earned it's reputation. more

Best Indian Food in town 3/19/2011

This was my first time visit in Star of India. By hearing the ""Best food title "" from my friends I decided i would give it a try.It was friday night, Not for a suprise i think it was craziest bussiest place in town. There was a huge waiting list. The waitress made me feel comfortable. All of the staffs were friendly and welcomed us. Aghhh, finally we were seated. The resturant was so clean and had a perfect environment. The waitess expalined all the foods and gave the best reccomendation to me.Our food was ready so quickly and i could not belive it......Gosh It was the super delicious food i had eaten in my life time. I have decied i will surely vist this place again!!!! Thanks:) more

Don't do it 3/12/2011

My experience was horrible!!! First, the waiter never mentioned how severely hot one plate would be. My friend burned her thumb so badly it was already blistering in less than 5 minutes. I asked for one order of Garlic Naan, and for some reason changed my friend's regular naan (that was supposed to come with meal) to garlic naan and charged us for it. They never once stopped by to see how our we were doing or how our food tasted. I thought the Chicken Tiki Masala was dry. I could have made something better at home. In less than 40 minutes after arriving, we were given our check by someone other than our original server, and asked to hurry and eat fast--people were waiting and needed a table. NEVER have I been asked to leave a restaurant because of high traffic. There was only one couple waiting. That is why waiting lists exists. We still had half or more of our food left to eat! On the whole, nothing good to report. I was disappointed and will never go back. I will also tell everyone I know about this experience. There are other Indian places in SLC with better service and better food. more

All my friends love Star of India, as do I 10/19/2010

With all you can eat lunch buffet for $9.95 you should stay home and save your money if you cannot afford this. I look forward to all the fantastic selections every week and savor every great taste. They always have the best tasting food every single time, and a great variety to select from. The staff is always helpful and courteous. The Star special dinner is fantastic & under $20, can't beat that! Looking forward to my next visit very soon! more

Not worth the money 5/21/2010

The portions for dinner are half the size of any other Indian restuarant I have been to in SLC for the price. The food is below average. The service was so so. The staff seemed more interested in watching a show instead of working.Should have known since the place was empty !!. Left a 18.5 % tip and waitress demanded a 20% tip ..I was very insulted !! Far better India restuarant are throughout in Salt Lake area !! Will not be back.. Cons: Over priced..Bad Service more

Delicious Indian Cuisine 11/14/2008

Years back a friend of mine took a group to the Star of India (before the fire at the old location) to experience Indian Cuisine. From that moment, I was hooked. We have been to 3-4 other Indian Restaurants multiple times from Salt Lake to Ogden and have tried to invite friend along when we go so they can experience Indian food. One of our friends that we invited previously to A Bountiful Royal India asked when we were going to get Indian Food again. When we found out that The Star was open again on 400 South, we couldn?t wait to go. I read some of the negative reviews posted here and wasn?t sure what to expect since I haven?t eaten there since they moved to 400 South. Pros: Good Food, Excellent Tandoori, Restaurant-com Gift Certificates Accepted, Lunch Buffet Available Cons: Parking downtown can be difficult at times. more

worst food to waste money 10/16/2008

it is the worst hotel in utah more

Not a repeat 4/22/2008

Service was slow and our orders were incorrect when they finally arrived. The food was decent, nothing wonderful, but they charged extra for rice. Completely unimpressive all around, and not worth going back to. Pros: The curtains in the front were quite pretty Cons: bad service, not great food, charged for rice more

Worst service with below average food 11/11/2007

I read all the reviws and decided to take a shot, but my experience was really bad. Took them 30 mins to take order when they were not even busy. The waiter didnt write down the order and then he forgot beverages. The Food wasnt tha good either. I'm indian and i know how the food is supposed to taste, definately not like one there. The check wasnt given to us even 1/2 hour after we were done eating. They charged for small small things that you would expect free, like rice and refill on drinks etc... more

Not so great... 8/13/2007

Our first stop in a search for good Indian food in Salt Lake, as i am new to the city. Not impressed. Matar Paneer wasn't rich and creamy, nor was the Lamb Korma (and i'm used to having cashews involved with this dish--also absent). We were asked by three different servers whether we'd had our order taken, and my order came out wrong the first time. Ambiance was not so hot either, but that wouldn't have bothered me if the food had indeed been splendid. But alas... Also, the portions were small and it costs extra to get any rice with your meal instead of just naan, which is total nonsense. Won't be back. Pros: well, it's certainly not crowded... Cons: ...probably because it's not very good more
