Star Child Academy

My kid has been going to this daycare since she was 2 years old and now that she will be soon 5 years old I had to switch schools. I never had an issue with the teachers until she switched to the Pre-K class. I started noticing unacceptable ways when interacting with the children. Children are very restricted in that class. The teacher, even though when approached will tell you that she has been doing that for 12 years, definitely needs some training. She threatens the children about calling their parents when she feels she cannot deal with a situation which is often. The teacher had a list of games that only kids who were able to fall asleep in nap time were allowed to play. I informed the director, who by the way had no idea of this occurrence. That just confirms that there is no oversight of what happens in the classrooms. The kids are constantly being scolded about staying on their mats because nap time is required but in my opinion I would say nap time is enforced.\r \r Once I switched schools and after observation of the new school staff I confirmed that those approaches were definitely wrong. Just because somebody has been taking care of children for 12 years does not mean that they are qualified to do so. In my opinion they think they are preparing children and even though their academics are ok they forget about their emotional beings and their creativity. I was sad about my daughter leaving ""her school"", but her new school is so much better. I guess everything happens for a reason and in this case for a better school. more

I also do not agree with the negative feedback on this site. My daughter has been with Starchild Academy Waterford for 3 years now. I took me a great deal of time and research to decide what school/daycare I would put her in. From the moment we first stepped foot into the school, the staff was extremely welcoming. In respects to education, they focus on the same curriculum as our local public schools. My little one is now in their prek class and is working on a kindergarten curriculum. She is reading, writing, recognizes all her sight words and much more. I can't say enough about the school. As for Mr. Jeff, I have never had any reason to think that he is a nice hard working man. more

I do not agree with the complete review. The curriculums are fine since it is a day care. I do not believe the children are going head out to college when they are done with Pre-K so I think it is best to let the children have fun & learn as they are right now. I always say if parents are not happy with day care, then one of the parents should stay home & raise the child. I understand that many parents have to work due to vehicle payments, house payments, bills, etc and when that happens; the children are the ones being left under the care of these facilities. It is up to parents to decide what is best for their kids & yes children need to socialize but at an early age; they should not be pushed to being academically prepared at such a young age. Therefore, these curriculums are all age appropriate. I have seen some teachers get a little strict with some children but then again; they are the ones looking after them while we go to work & children need to be in good behavior when not under their parent?s supervision. It is up to the parents the manners enforced at home. Sadly, there are children that need a little more attention than others do to when it comes to behaving properly when around other adults. more

As a parent that has sent 2 children to the waterford location, I can speak highly of the director, Ms. Beth and a majority of the staff that work directly with the kids. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the owner, Mr. Jeff. He has proven through his behavior on more than one occasion that his number one priority is his profit margin and bottom line. It is truly sad as I know several parents that have pulled and are planning on pulling their kids from this academy due to his lack of interest in the children. The sad thing is that he does not care because he still has a waiting list however it will be interesting to see how that changes when 2 new Ladybird Academy's open in Avalon and on Lake Underhill - on both ends of Waterford Lakes. My children have both been to Star Child since they were toddlers. One is getting ready to graduate from PreK. They both have learned so much. My son is ending JrPreschool and knows all letters and sounds, my daughter is leaving PreK in a couple of weeks and knows how to read. They both sing songs together about days of the week, and the alphabet in French and Spanish. The teachers are all so friendly. I couldn't ask for anything more. The other lady is crazy, they have a ton of role playing activities (such as dress up and kitchen. In fact they are my daughters favs). I found this school to be one of the best i have ever been in. It was very clean and the taechers and children seemed very happy and engaged in activities. I love the foeign languages and sign language. Ms. Beth the director gave an awsome tour. She ansewered all of our questions and seemed genuine in her excitement about the school. The daycare seems nice looking form the outside in. My experience was horrible at this daycare. The owners in particular Jeff is only concerned with turning a profit. He has no real concern for the children or their development. The turnover is horrible because he treats his employees like trash! He is very rude and he gives this franchise a horrible name.
