GREAT..Except computer access 9/28/2010

I loved my stay here, as I love B and B's, but SH had a problem with it's wireless access. We depend in computers a lot, and found the wireless connection iffy in different parts of the property-it was very inconvenient. Would also have appreciated a little more detail BEFORE booking about the TINY, semi-private bath in our room. However, that said, it's a great house in a good location. more

A charming stay in Marietta 9/8/2010

The Stanley House is a charming bed and breakfast close to the historic square in Marietta, with the most hospitable of innkeepers (Joseph and Meg), the most delightful of ambience, and all of the charm of the Old South. We stayed three days recently and regretted that our time had come to an end when it came to an end. The house was warm and welcoming; the innkeepers rapidly became friends; and, came to feel totally at home there. Another reviewer recently made much of the proximity of the main rail line to the B&B, and it is worth mentioning that there is rail traffic. But, that too is a major part of the Stanley House's charm - we came to look forward to the sound of the passing trains. Since each of us had grown up near a rail line, the sound took us back to another time. Those who want sterile silence may not like having the trains nearby, but we loved them!? more

No charm to be found here! 5/9/2006

From the beginning, this was a less than pleasant experience. Making/confirming reservations was difficult, considering the fact that phone calls are often answered by the machine and messages weren't returned with any sort promptness. Our reception upon check-in wasn't terribly friendly, but I really don't mind that. Others might, however. The house itself is a bit shabby and in sore need of updating. The carpeting, wallpaper and bedding are all at least 20 years old and are in disrepair. The flowered comforter on our bed was very badly stained on the underside (looked like some kind of beverage had been spilled on it) and was very unsightly. I had to take it off of the bed for the remainder of our stay. The mattress was incredibly saggy, the wallpaper was peeling, the doorknob on the closet kept falling off and the extra pillows in the closet were old and stained...all little things that don't annoy on their own, but as a group become very annoying. The breakfast was also dismal. Actually, it was really terrible. I've had better food at high school cafeterias. It was bland, boring and unimaginative. Bland scrambled eggs, bland heat and serve hash browns, grits (!), wheat toast cut into triangles and one glass of O.J. The coffee was wretched. One last little bit of info: there is a train directly across the street, which runs frequently and late into the night/early in the morning. If you're a light sleeper, this could pose serious problems. In sum, I did not feel as though The Stanley House is a good value for the price at all. It is borderline roadside motel quality for 3 or 4 star prices. more

Bed & Breakfast 8/12/2005

This is a charming Bed and Breakfast that filled with southern charm. The big country front porch has lovely rockers for you to enjoy the evening. The rooms are spacious with gorgeous linens and beautiful antiques that fill the room. Breakfast is freshly made and you have a wonderful choice of breakfast items to choose from. There is also lots of fresh fruit, hot coffee and delicious tea. The hospitality here is the finest in town. They only have five rooms so you want to make sure that you do book in advance so you don’t miss out on this great place. more
