Best

I went to lunch at the new St. Michael's Alley on Thursday. It was amazing. The new space has a bar, and casual tables, the colors are warm and inviting. The owners are were there...

Perfect place 10/14/2006

It's really hard to find anything wrong with place. This little restaurant in downtown Palo Alto with outside seating available right on Emerson Street during summer hours has all the majors covered. The cuisine is exquisite. The menu is quite simple, but what St. Michael's Alley offers, it delivers well. Reservations are generally required for dinner, for lunch and breakfast they don't seem to be as busy. The menu is available on the restaurant site http://www.stmikes.com/ The service was excellent, ready with recommendations, and open to discussions on what's included in the dishes. The carafe of the grapefruit juice that we ordered was delicious as well. The restaurant is clean, dimly lit to create private atmosphere. The awards on the wall happily inform you that it's been awarded The Best Romantic Restaurant in Silicon Valley year after year. Overall, the food is great, the service is friendly, this is a must visit. more

Flavors and sauces to make your mouth water 11/19/2005

In a lil' nook in Palo Alto lies this gem of a restaurant. My fiancee and I strolled in and were fortunate to have found bar seats given that they're generally fully booked (call for reservations) up for the night. As always with a new restaurant I went right for one of the specials (gives you some insight into the quality of their food) and was thoroughly delighted by their duck confit with polenta and green beans. While I'm not usually a duck fan, the preparation here was incredible with a sauce that brought all of the flavors together like an epicurean symphony. My fiancee had their prosciutto wrapped salmon dish, which if that description alone doesn't do it, trying it will surely render you hopelessly enamored with this restaurant. I had to steal 3 or 4 bites from her, as it too was delicious. The proprietors, Jen & Mike, are there every night, and from my brief conversation with them, have a true passion for their trade. Heck, they eat there every night too, so you can be sure that the meals are never boring. If you're in Palo Alto, I highly recommend stopping by this neighborhood place off the beaten path of Palo Alto's other more "pop" appeal restaurants. more
