mediocre service, hard to read the menu 3/12/2012

It is really hard to read the menu. With my glasses on, I have better than 20/20 vision, so I can't be the only person with this problem. The coffee was good, and so was the wrap I got. more

Pleasant 12/11/2010

A friend and I stopped for coffee here on a snowy night and it was perfect. A warm cozy ambiance with many young people working on projects on their laptops, couples making out, friends conversing. I immediately felt comfortable stepping in to there and enjoyed looking at the moody paintings hanging on the walls. I liked the fact that patrons were diverse, I heard foreign languages being spoken, and different races hanging out together. The ladies working behind the counter were pleasant, not super outgoing, kind of shy seeming, which is OK by me. I will definitely stop by there again next time I'm in the area. more

Greedy Liars 3/11/2009

I went in for a cup of coffee and tried to pay with a credit card. They said it was a $3 minimum for credit cards. NOT TRUE! There is no such thing, in fact credit card companies don't allow it. You can see for yourself on your credit card company's faq section. \r \r They owe me $1.05. Pros: rip you off with a smile Cons: rip you off more

not impressed 2/15/2009

I was excited when Spyhouse first opened, but the last few times I've been in there the service has been slow and rude. There are way too many other coffee shops in Minneapolis to treat your customers poorly. The crowd there is also far to snobish for me - sorry I'm not an art school kid. Pros: ? Cons: service, ambience more

What are they thinking??? 1/27/2009

As someone who owns 2 coffee houses and a managing partner for a restaurant group, I was amazed at the complete lack of service from the 3 women that where working during our 2 visits from Milwaukee. They had the attitude that we and the other customers in the cafe were an inconvenience. They never greeted us, just stared at us. Never said Thank You, God forbid. Never asked us what they could get for us. Never smiled. Never said goodbye when they had the opportunity. Looked like they literally crawled out of bed. \r And then to top it off, one of the gals working there had a tizzy fit because we moved a small table next to another table to accomodate the 6 people that we had brought to the cafe (to spend MONEY!!). She then made us move and proceeded to put the table back where it was......in front of a clearly marked fire exit!! Not only incredibly rude, but also illegal. Hard earned dollars are just that, hard earned. On my next visit, I think I might find another place to hang out for my morning brew and spend my hard earned dollars. They're just too cool for me. Pros: good coffee and food Cons: horrible service more

Ultimate Cool Spot 6/12/2008

I used to come here all the time in high school because it is the ultimate cool spot that is not a bar. They have a wide range of specialty coffee drinks. Great outdoor seating. Blocks away from the Art Museum and conveniently located on Eat Street. Parking can be a hassle. Expect it to be difficult to find a place to plug in your laptop because they get busy. Free Wi-Fi. You have to visit this place more than once because the art work changes all the time and is available for sale. For example one time they displayed old Star Wars movie posters from around the world, other times it?s local photographers, artists, from the very strange and exotic to plain but ALWAYS interesting. They have retro tables and chairs. Booths as well as a very long bar. Very cool hanging 60?s and 70?s light fixtures. Very large crowds of artsy students with mohawks and chic clothes---perfect people watching hang out spot. Expect to hear very LOUD music from folk, punk, classical and just about anything. Open late. If you like SpyHouse they have a sister shop down the street called the Badwaitress that has a large food menu plus all the SpyHouse coffee drinks PLUS beer and wine. more

good stuff all the time 2/13/2008

spyhouse is a great caf'e with a very cool factor. also being in the middle of an art district te customers are well, interesting and self absorbed in a good way. Making the spyhouse a perfect spot to relax and have a great cup of joe and the pita and hummes is also great Pros: good every thing also the barista/waitress/only person working was damn hot more

Large Spy Chaser to go 6/4/2007

With the exception of one lone Dunn Bros in the western suburbs, this is virtually the only coffee shop I'll go to if given a choice.\r \r The big chain coffee shops all have the same formulated vibe. Corporate and coffee. It doesn't even sound right. I love the fact that Spyhouse has a personality and it's seen in everything from the decor to the employees to the wide range of customers. Pros: $1 refills on regular coffee, wi-fi and outdoor seating in the summer Cons: parking more

What a Coffeehouse Should Be 11/3/2006

Spyhouse is great. I've been going there for years and the coffee is excellent, the service is either friendly or indifferent, and the mish mosh of furniture is comfortable. Also, it's open late. I live in Chicago and there's nothing like it here. more

good coffee, poor customer service 9/19/2006

i have been to the spyhouse on a few occasions, and each time i was insulted by the way i was treated by the employees. they act as if they are doing you a favor, instead of the other way around. at the spyhouse, the barista is always right. but hey, the coffee tasted pretty good, so if you want to be treated poorly, get a cup of coffee and get stared down by a tattooed snob. Pros: coffee, atmosphere Cons: service more

Diverse 8/18/2003

I love this MIA coffeehouse. The decor is sort of modern meets retro. There is plenty of seating. The crowd is very diverse....makes you feel like you're not in Minneapolis....but rather a bigger city. The coffee is top notch and the staff very knowledgeable. more
