Springfield Christian School (SCS), established in 1951 as Christian Day School and later known as Christian Elementary School, offers kindergarten through eighth-grade classes with the capacity for educating 450 students. SCS is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education. Grades K?8 SCS provides an excellent academic program including curriculum from A Beka, Concordia and McGraw Hill. SCS tests all students annually using a nationally normed, standardized test. Grade-level results are available at the school office. SCS offers two classrooms per grade level in kindergarten through eighth. Kindergarten is open to all students reaching the age of 5 before September 1 of the current school year. An LD Resource teacher is available for those requiring additional instruction. The school day at SCS is 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for students. An Extended Care program is available to all students before school (7 to 8 a.m.) and after school (3:45 to 5:30 p.m.) every school day. Specific Holiday Care dates are available as well. Junior High (Grades 6?8) Springfield Christian School offers a comprehensive, challenging curriculum for sixth- through eighth-grade students. This curriculum includes Math/Accelerated Math/Honors Math, Literature, English, Science, History, Bible, Band, Chorus, Art and Physical Education. Extracurricular activities include Spelling Bee, IESA Music and Literary/Drama Contests, Geography Bee, Scholastic Bowl, Yearbook and Interscholastic Sports. Cafeteria?State-approved Class A hot lunches are served daily. Free and reduced prices are available for qualifying families.
