Spring Lake Day Camp

I am a parent of a former camper that attended Spring Lake Day Camp. I was referred to the camp when my child was in 5th grade. My family was going through a sensitive transition where I wanted to minimize its effect on my son. He had a few friends from where we lived so my perception, based on recommendations, was sound. I visited the camp and saw the levels of safety, cleanliness and professionalism of its staff. Needless to say my son had a great experience. The camps diversified specialties make it a camp where most kids will find their niche. From arts and crafts, discovery, and athletics there is something for all. The counselors in particular were sensitive to my sons needs and were very attentive to him over the years. I later found that the specialists were high level coaches in their field. Others were educators in elementary, middle or high school. All established professionals.\r It was amazing to me how a camp of this size was run so effectively and efficiently given its population of campers and staff? Well, in my opinion it starts at the top. \r The Kessler’s and their directors are very visible and involved in the day to day operations of the camp. The camps theme and purpose is evident in all its processes. It would be unrealistic for me to say that there are adversities in any process or business. But through staff collaboration and feedback from parents the camp is better and better each year. Its owners model the way and are as active as any of its employees. They genuinely care about the campers, employees, and parents and make every effort to make a wonderful environment for all. They invest in the camp unlike other camps that are a “business”. Spring Lake’s camp business reaches outside the scope of financial gains. I see it as preparing the campers and young counseling staff for the future in a responsible and cooperative way.\r As my son became of high school age he was asked to join its leadership training program. The directors were key in making sure that these candidates were prepared to continue modeling the way of the camps theme. My son made it through the program and is now a counselor going into his 3rd season employed at the camp. Spring Lake Day Camp’s staff are clearly and unconditionally interested in helping my son become the best he can be. Spring Lake Day Camp is an incredible experience for both campers and staff! Both my children and I have spent 5 wonderful summers at SLDC and cannot wait to begin our 6th!\r My children have had warm, sensitive counselors and made many new friends each year. They have participated in athletics, arts & crafts, and a master swim program. Every summer there is a new activity for them to try as well.\r The well-maintained grounds and knowledgable staff of administrators, specialists, lifeguards, and counselors make Spring Lake a one-of-a-kind experience for each and every camper!\r We cannot wait to go back! My kids each spent 5 summers at SLDC and they had an amazing experience. The swim program is the best I have ever seen and my kids loved the heated pools. My boys got to participate in activities that they love (EVERY sport) while getting exposure to new activities (zipline, fishing, martial arts) that they had never done before. What is most impressive is the fact that every specialty area is lead by instructors with expertise in the area so the kids really learn a lot! I found the entire staff -from the office to the counselors to the directors -to be very responsive and professional. I received periodic calls from my children's group leaders and head counselors to update me and any time I had a question, the administrators got back to me promptly to answer it. The owners and directors are very hands on which is a big plus. Every week there is another special event to look forward to -carnivals, shows, color war - and each summer something new is added to the program like the fitness center that was added last summer. I would highly recommend Spring Lake - it is by far the best day camp I have seen. Pros: Wonderful facilities and caring staff Cons: NONE!!! more

What a great way to spend the summer! Heated pools, great sports instruction, door to door pick-up and my kids don't even complain about the food. I have been sending my children to Spring Lake Day Camp for 9 years and I am very happy with their baseball and swim programs. \r \r My son lives for the days his group goes to baseball and he always chooses baseball for his option.... He just can not get enough!!!!!! He now plays baseball for his highschool and has an opportunity to play for a local college. They must be doing something right! \r \r My daughter's nick name was the little mermaid. She never wanted to get out of the water! She learned how to swim at Spring Lake Day Camp!! She now swims for her highschool as well!!!!!!! \r \r All in all I am a very satified customer of Spring Lake Day Camp and would recommend it to anyone looking for a camp. If you are looking for that picture perfect camp atmosphere you found it in Spring Lake Day Camp. This camp has it all including a lake for boating and fishing. My kids love to hunt for frogs, play baseball and most of all swim in the heated pools. I am most impressed that they have over 50 life guards watching the water and have a 2 to 3 campers per swim group. Spring Lake has an even mix of sports and arts which I personally like. \r \r Every week there is a great special event that get my kids excited for camp or a trip for my son entering 4th grade. The bus is fine since it is a small mini bus and has a staff member on board. By the way these buses have air conditioning. \r \r I cant begin to tell you how attentive the staff is to the needs of the campers. I get phone call at home just to tell me how they are doing . The camp is a uniform camp which at first I thought my kids were going to be upset but it turned out that they love wearing their spring lake day camp shirts. The shirts and the lunch make it very easy for me in the morning. The camp offers two snacks a day plus lunch which is included in the tuition. \r \r I have checked out other camps and nothing compares. Thank goodness for Spring Lake because I dont think there is another camp in the area that even comes close to the program they offer. \r \r Trust me when I tell you this camp is the best. When I took a tour with my family all I could think of is that I wish I could go to a camp like this.\r \r Thank you for taking great care of my most important posessions. I've been going to and sending my kids to camps since me or my kids, was old enough. In my twenties I worked in a variety of camps (day/overnight) because I wanted to give children the same amazing experience had. At camp our children should find great role models, learn life skills, and have a ton of fun.\r Spring Lake looks great on the outside (nice facilities, lots of kids) but when you look into more you find horrible corruption that filters down into the young staff. Young adults should not be subjected to poor language, on the job drinking espially in food prep, unsanitary conditions, and a camp director who has zero passion for the kids but only treats it as a way to get more money. The prices themselves should speak alone. Let alone the luxury that the assistant camp director Bob himself lives in. The staff are often mistreated out of rage by Bob himself and other leadership staff right in front of the children! I sent my kids (2 campers, 1 staff) there for a week and had to withdraw them early after the stories they brought home. With closer examination I found too many things to even consider it an option for my children as campers or as staff. Its leadership staff are immature, unprofessional, and have the campers (let alone the wellbeing of their young staff) on the bottom their priority list.\r \r I'd like to warn all parents that this is no place for children-Especially not mine.\r \r Spring Lake has tarnished the name of all good summer camps.\r Pros: Huge facilities, awesome younger staff Cons: Leadership staff bad example more
