A little appreciation. 9/19/2008

Spoons is our neighborhood cafe. We live in Federal Hill and appreciate the effort that Spoons has made to be a part of this community. As far a food goes, I can say that it is CONSISTENTLY good. More than I can say of other places. The food is not innovative but healthy and local ingredients are used in a variety of items. The baristas make the BEST hand-crafted lattes I have ever had. I love the latte art as, well. Pros: Local, friendly, good food. Cons: Not enough space to accommodate all eager eaters. Spoons needs to be in every city I visit. I miss it when on my travels. more

Bad service, otherwise okay. 3/23/2008

The food is okay and I like the decor. But recently we've had some less than cheerful service. And we brought a friend from CA once who had a laptop and the hostess said ""you have laptops, here are the rules. You can only use them for 1/2 hour and here are the places you can sit"". It seemed very backwards and I was embarrassed and had to explain that all of Baltimore was not this way. We went to metropolitan who were happy to sit us and let him surf the web to his hearts content Pros: Nice decor (warm) and okay food. Cons: Service. more

Warm and Cool 1/13/2008

I used to work in the federal hill area, and every morning i would go to spoons. My favorite drink is the iced chocolate bomb(with caramel). The only way i could get through a days work is by going there. And their steak and spinach paninis are great! The service is good, and the employees are inviting. It also helps when the scenery isn't half bad. The place is decorated with a kind of earthy, bohemian, meets busy downtown type of feel. I love it. And I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for some good coffee, and a quick bite! Pros: the decor is warm and inviting Cons: if its to busy service is kind of slow more

Funky, laid-back place for your daily grind and grub. A bargain. 11/4/2007

We came across this place at random while strolling through Federal Hill. Next time we're in Baltimore, though, we'll make a bee line for it. Our party of five had a variety of soups, salads, and quiches for lunch. It was all made carefully to order, tastefully and tastily prepared, and served with just enough of an attitude to remind us were were in the Big City, not someone's living room (which the sofas and bright colors on the walls might lead you to believe). The butternut squash and apple soup was the very taste of autumn, while my companion's jambalaya had the real smokey bite of ol' N'awlins. (Unfortunately, though, the soups were a little tepid by thee time they reached us.) And for $7.95, the ""combo"" deal allowing you to choose two from among soup, salad, sandwich, wrap, or quiche was the right price and the right amount of food to satisfy without making us feel were were destined to join the ranks of the obese. All in all, one of the nicest lunch spots I've ever come across. Pros: Good food/good price; funky decor; laid-back atmosphere (next time I want to snag an easty chair) Cons: Soups came out a little cool; parking's a challenge on Federal Hill more
