Good but not great 5/29/2006

After hearing the rave reviews about Sperrys, I decided to see for myself what all the hype was about. I suppose I went in with some very high expectations after being of thrilled with the likes of Ruths Chris and Flemings. The only thing that lacks in comparison to these establishments is the steak itself. In my opinion this is not the area you want to come up short in. My steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, but the flavor and quality of the meat just wasnt up to par with other Nashville establishments. HOWEVERthe evening was far from a total loss with delicious soups, a plentiful salad bar, delicious sides and a wine list that had nothing but bargains. I would HIGHLY recommend Sperrys for those who want to have a casual good meal, but might not want the stuffiness or prices of Nashvilles finer establishments. Sperry's is my favorite restaurant in Nashville. It is warm, comfortable and friendly, and NOT a chain. The Prince William Blue-cheese stuffed filet is my favorite. Mushrooms sperry and escargot are classics. Bananas Foster flamed tableside is my special occasion treat. The sevice is very friendly and the Halibut Oscar is my husbands favorite. Sperry's is where we take all of our out of town guests. The English Steakhouse atmosphere is very original. General manager Jim Boggs is great too! Who do you have to know to get a table? 8/23/2005

Wanted to make a 5:30 reservation for Wednesday, all was booked until 8:30, we came in anyway. The bar was full, the empty tables had reserved signs. I was told 1st come 1st serve. Heading to the ladies room I see empty tables. I asked the man at the doorway about it, he was nice, but seemed at a loss for words when I questioned the reserved signs and why I was told everything was booked. He said hed do what he could. We got a table next to the salad bar, I wasn't going to be picky at this point. What I don't understand is: the tables that were empty upon arrival, remained empty and still empty when we left. The food was good, the waiter was attentive. I guess you have to be a VIP to make reservations or sit at an empty table of your choice? Pros: good food, good waiter Cons: bad table, unjust image more

Paid $90 for cold food and bad service. 7/27/2005

I will NEVER eat there again. I was treated with contempt and disrespect. I may not be a retired doctor but I would not come if I couldn't pay. Our waitress treated us like we were dirt under her feet. She rolled her eyes at me and turned her back at least twice. Twenty minutes after asking our waitress, I had to ask another waiter to bring us some bread. He was very kind and brought it right to us, our waitress never apologized. We had to wait over an hour for food and when it was brought, it was cold. I told the manager about the problems. He said they were busy, turned and walked away without a single apology. Since the waitress thought I was too poor to leave a good tip I put 50 cents in her hand, turned and gave the bread guy $20. Upbeat, happening place! 5/27/2005

I had dinner at Sperry's and everyone was so friendly the staff seems to enjoy thier job! Nothing is better than butch of smiley faces, even the manager seem to be having fun doing his job! I can be assured of a great meal everytime I go. I can also be assured that I will run into friends. Sperry`s has a warm and inviting atmoshpere with a ""cheers"" sort of vibe... even if by myself I always feel comfortabe ..the food is wonderful and I love the sald bar..great home made dressings... fairly priced wine list and some of the best fries in town...to the reviewer who said Sperrys was decorated country western...did your guide dog tell you that? It`s English pub with stained glass , nautical theme and almost everything in the place was hand made by the late Houston Thomas, founder Sperry`s and collector of all the wonderful art and quirky antiques that adorn the walls. Each time we go to Sperry's for dinner it is a wonderful experience! The atmosphere is incredible, and the food is outstanding! We have never been dissapointed at Sperry's. So..with a babysitter in place our first choice is Sperry's. Pros: ambience, food, wine more

My wife and I love Sperry's. It is so comfortable and the food and service are unbeatable. While we go often I would recommend it as a first time experience as they will really make you feel at home and take care of you. Something on the menu for everyone in the party. Sperry's... A place full of memories. I can not tell you what a wonderful place that Sperry's is. The best Blue-cheese Steak that I have ever had...not to mention the Flaming Bananas Foster Desert that was to die for. Mostly, I love the cosy and romanic place to have a after dinner drink by the fireplace. I can not say enough great things about the people that work there and about the cliental that eats there. The fireplace is amazing! 11/8/2004

Whenever I go to Sperry's, I love to sit by the fireplace with someone special. I know all the staff by name, and they know me as well. I've been going to Sperry's for years and have never had a problemn with anything. Thank you so much for years of your hospitality! Keep up the good work! more

Surprised-both good and bad 10/1/2004

I was a little surprised that this place has a salad bar that you must attend to yourself. Other than that, our food was great and Jamie, our waiter, was wonderful. The restaurant had a gorgeous atmosphere, but I was a little disappointed with the food. The appetizers were plain awful. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and they had no taste to them. I was expected to have a salad brought to the table, but there was a salad bar which I think is tacky. The best thing about the experience was the steak. I had the prime rib, which was out of this world. I would definitely go back for the steak, but the rest of the experience just isn't worth it. i don't understand what is supposed to be so great about this place. i have been twice now, and found it mediocre both times. the crab legs taste wonderful but will kill you getting into them.. even outback opens the shells for you- come on guys, get with it! service is not very good. granted, it was crowded last night, but we had to send two of our orders back because something was wrong & the server seemed annoyed both times. i'd much rather order a salad than construct my own from a so-so bar. may go one more time to try a steak. Always excellent 10/8/2002

Everything about this place is great. I've been eating here since it opened and although I've moved out of town, keep coming back for special occassions. The bar is very cozy and comfortable, especially when the fireplace is lit and the food quality is excellent. The salad bar allows everyone to have a salad made the way he or she likes it.
