Spectrum Athletic Clubs

I have been trying out different gyms & really liked all the equipment at Spectrum. However, when I received a call from one of the Sales staff members I lost my phone connection & then received a very rude voice message. The staff member accused me of hanging up on him & told me I needed to learn some manners. \r \r Not something you say when you work in customer service! Because of this I will not come back to this gym & will also not recommend it to anyone else. more

I was a member for just over 2 years and recently cancelled at the Goleta location. I went in, signed some sort of cancellation policy and walked out with a copy of it. \r I was also told that November 1st would be my last billing but had until the end of the year to use the clubs. WOW , that does sound horrible and difficult. \r I've heard that you should read a contract and ask quesions before you sign. more

had been working out on my own for years, got the same results which were no results. finally i started working with Kendra Seoane, personal trainer, and am in the best shape of my life. working out is now fun. i look forward to our interesting conversations. she always has me laughing throughout our sessions and smiling when i leave. she has cured my low back pain and has helped rehabilitate my knee after several surgeries. Pros: very clean, nice equipment, friendly staff Cons: expensive (but well worth the extra $$) more

I have been a member for 8 years! The make it difficult to cancel (have to do it in person and in writing), \r and then there's the fine print of the extra 60 days fees. Basically, they try to eek out as much money as \r they can, even from customers like me who have been members for so long. I think its very unfair that you\r still have to pay for two more months after you cancel. It makes me mad! I wish there was something I can \r do about it. more

I would never recommend signing for Spectrum. As a member for over 2 years, I gave them more than 30 days noticed for cancellation but still have to pay for the extra month that I will not live in Santa Barbara due to their very slimey 60 day cancellation policy. Not only that but 60 days does not go into effect until the 1st of the following month.\r \r They also charge people $20 to work out for the day....why people actually pay $20 to work out for a few hours is beyond crazy. This gym is always looking for ways to steal more money out an already over priced membership. Do not sign up! 24 Hour fitness is much more flexible and less expensive. Hours are better too. Cons: Rip Off more

Sure, Spectrum is a nice place, as long as you don't decide you want to leave. If you do try to leave, be prepared to navigate a hellish circle of obfuscation, disrespect, and confusion. Be prepared as requirement upon requirement is heaped upon you, under the guise of contractual obligations. I was told that I had to cancel in writing because of some (fake) recently-passed California state law. If you complete that step, be prepared to pay for two extra months of service you don't want or need because of their 60 day cancellation ""policy."" Seriously, it's easier to get out of a cell phone contract than it is to escape Spectrum. more

I just wrote a review for the Spectrum club by my house and I found it fair to include one for gym by my office, since I work out there most of the time. This gym is clean, has great equipment, a great staff that remembers my name and other members who are my peers, not loud college students. You get what you pay for and I am glad I did join the Spectrum--and I get two gyms! If you use your gym as much as I do, you owe it to yourself to check this one out ! Pros: locations, clientele, equipment, clean, parking Cons: cost more, but well worth it 1 more

Very clean! Very friendly staff! The trainers are amazing..Highly energized and motavating and found them to have the latest information out there in the fitness industry. The staff at the Downtown Spectrum are always polite, informed and ready to help. The trainers are well informed, friendly, and work with you to help you meet your goals. The decor is inviting and there are plenty of machines so you don't have to wait to work out. They also provide awesome clasees and even have great social events for members. If you're looking an athletic club where you'll be treated like someone special, this is where you should go. more

This is the best large gym in the Santa Barbara area. The staff is nice, but not as experienced as other places I've been, but hey, it's a gym. Pros: A large gym with plenty of equipment for those that know what they are doing. Cons: The personal trainers do not have any real education, they are not truly local more

The trainers are all extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I have been working with Kendra for 2 months and have lost 12 lbs! She's awesome with nutrition guidance and motivation. This girl knows her stuff.\r \r The equipment all looks new...always clean and available...rarely have I had to wait {except for maybe 6 pm it can be difficult to find an elliptical. but even then...only a few minutes wait.}\r \r Also...they have a program called Health Miles--basically you get a free pedometer when you sign up and you get rewarded $250 bucks for being active, you get $1000 worth of personal training, and other random gifts like water bottles & a sweatshirt, etc.\r \r I've been here since before when it was Gold's, and it just seems to keep getting better : ) Pros: customer service, $$ for working out, Wendell's yoga classes, Kendra-personal training Cons: peak hour--small wait for ellipitical in beginning of weak, wish there was another hip hop class more

After driving by Spectrum with the thought of joining always in the back of my head, i gained enough confidence to eventually walking in. After being greated by the front desk i was introduced to a membership consultant and before i knew it, i was working out on there great equipment while having NO regrets. this club is highly recommended and has met all my standerd and im sure you will agree if you just take the time to walk in and see for yourself! This is one of the best health clubs I have ever seen. I came in to workout with a friend of mine and was immediately intrigued and impressed. I was drawn to the condition and layout of the facility, its amazingly friendly and helpful staff, and the workout equipment Spectrum had provided for its patrons. As soon as I was done working out, I signed up right there on the spot. I have been a happy member ever since and I would definently recommend Spectrum Athletic Club Downtown to any one of my friends or even perfect strangers. more

This is definitely the best athletic club. Spectrum lives up to it's motto, it's ""a step up!"" This club has top of the line equipment and helpful trainers to help you reach your goals. The customer service and management are very friendly and personable. If you are looking for an outstanding gym with a great atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and the best equipment to use then I recommend Spectrum Athlecit Club! more

Out of all the health clubs within the area, this one is ABSOLUTELY amazing! The facility is always clean and well kept and it also provides state of the art fitness equipmet, a selection of group fitness classes, and numerous health programs to ensure the well-being of their members. The front desk staff is always friendly, sociable, and is a perfect example of customer service and will attend to any need. The trainers are well trained and knowledgeable within their particular field and really create results. They also provied various social events for their members allowing the members to associate within a different environment besides the club. I would undoubtably recommend Spectrum Athletic Club, it is definently a ""STEP UP!"" more

I have been to a lot of gyms over the years. Spectrum is by far the best club I have ever been to. The equipment is excellent. The group classes are very fun and interactive. Located in the heart of beautiful Downtown Santa Barbara, the first thing you notice when you walk in the door of the club is that it doesnt feel like a typical gym. The staff is friendly and greets you by name. You then make your way onto the main floor and are overcome by the meticulous standard to which the club is kept. The equipment is seccond to none and you will never have to wait in line to use any of it. The classes are phenomenal, especially the Afro Brasilian Dance, and the cardio equipment has its own private flat screen TVs making even the most strenous workouts enjoyable. I would recommend this club to anyone considering a gym in the Santa Barbara area. Pros: Clean, spacious, great classes, ample weight training and cardio equipment. more
