A Quaint Romantic Setting 11/11/2009

I have been coming to The Sow's Ear for over 15 years now. The last time I was there was this past Summer. Food is always delicious in taste as well as presentation. The wine list is pretty good I believe that the restaurants in Cambria pride themselves on their extensive wine selections being that they are in the Central California ""Wine Country"". Staple items to order when I am in town... the stuffed mushrooms, mussels, flowerbread, Macaroni and Cheese and the Trout consistently good. A family member used to work here so I may be biased but she hasn't worked here in over 10 years and we still return because the service is always nice and the ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and romantic. Respectfully Reviewed Pros: Service, Ambiance, Food is consistent Cons: Only open for dinner, no waiting area more

Perfect ending to a day in Cambria. 2/1/2009

The Sow's Ear had been recommended by the concierge of the inn we were staying at. At first the name threw me off but my better half talked me into trying it, and I was SO glad he did. We went in around 6:30, the host, who I assume was the owner, was so genuinely happy to see us and even though we didn't have reservations he said, ""That's okay! We will feed you anyways! Let's eat!"". I thought that was just the sweetest thing and immediately felt right at home. The fireplace kept everyone warm and the flowerpot bread was DELICIOUS! I chose the Salmon baked in parchment paper with dill and lemon butter. The salmon was one of the best I've had. It was cooked to perfection and was moist and flaky. My SO had the kalamata olive and goat cheese stuffed chicken breast and leg, again, one of the best chicken dishes I have had. The chicken was moist and melted in your mouth. We ended with a milk chocolate cheesecake and both couldn't stop talking about how wonderful the whole dinner had been. Our service was fantastic, the dinner was romantic and we felt like we were guests in their home. What a wonderful experience, I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a memorable dinner! Pros: Extensive wine lists, romantic. Cons: Parking may be a bit hard to find, more

A Very Nice Ending to a Pleasant Day 5/16/2008

We were visiting Cambria with some friends who were staying in Cambria for the weekend. They had wanted to take us to another restaurant but it had closed. So they selected the Sow's Ear. What a great choice! As you can see from the dates of the other reviews, they are apparently consistently good. The service was excellent, friendly and the place has character. We were celebrating anninversaries and they took care of that as well. The food was delicious and our wine was very good. So if you are in Cambria try them, you will not be disappointed. more

Don't miss The Sow's Ear 12/7/2007

Excellent! The wait staff were great and food was fabulous. It was a wonderful way to end the day of touring the shops and wine tasting. It was my birthday and they took my picture with a Polaroid and sign the picture with the date and give you a free treat. I had Raspberry Cheesecake. If you go to Cambria don't pass this restaurant up. more

Fantastic! Terrific! Worth every cent... 9/6/2005

I was pleasantly surprised. I went here with a couple of friends for my partner's birthday and it was perfect. The wine selection is terrific and offered not only a wide variety of wine but also a good variety of price ranges. I am embarrassed to say how many flower pots of bread we ate. Just everything that came out of the kitchen was perfect, the fried calamari appetizer was tender. The catfish, terrific! Filet mignon just melted in your mouth but the thick cut pork chops are off the flavor chart. I have never tasted pork chops that were so tender and delicious. To make the meal even more perfect, the waitress and our host were very responsive and made a wonderful night even more wonderful, I can not wait to go back. Pros: flower pot bread, Food, Wine selection more

Great environs especially for the area, wine selection mainly local and California wines. Excelent wait staff, very courteous, and friendly. Very freindly Owner named Patrick. The food was very enjoyable, started with Scampi, wife had scallops, I went with rack of lamb. Lamb cooked to perfection, but might recommend differnet seasoning. Wife's meal was excellent, and so was the desert. Photos taken of Anniversary couples, and complimentary items always offered. We brought a special wine, and they served us with excellent Spiegelau glassware. also waived corkage...Amazing Also honored reservations we were a half hour late for, even thoough they had posted the sign for closed!(Which we didn't see) Pros: Ambience, Service, Food more

This restaurant is like a hidden treasure...If you're driving anywhere near Cambria, you must take the time to have dinner here. Make reservations, it's small, but romantic, quaint and cozy, all the makings for a picture perfect dinner. The food and wine selection is just as excellent, with fresh pickings from the local farms and wineries. Pros: ambience, food, service more

For anyone who is visiting Cambria, must stop by the Sow's Ear. Don't let the name fool ya. This place not only has great chops, but it is also upscale and romantic.
