My name is Carlton and I started shopping at Southside in the early 90's. Mr. Harry was very involved at the time. His son Andy was a young man that was very intergetic, and in the process of learning the family business. At the time I was an inspector for the Louisiana Dept of Ag. fruit & Veg Division. I take my hat off to this family for providing the freshed product and the best quality available following the seasons. Let me count the ways... 1. Awesome prices. You can get twice the fruits and veggies here that you could for the same price at Wal-Mart. 2. Great quality. Everything here is fresh. They are always restocking and removing items that have gone bad. And their sweet corn is TO DIE FOR! 3. Wide selection. If it's a fruit or veggie, these folks have it. They have frozen fruits and veggies, too, in 2-pound bags which are a great value. 4. Interesting non-produce items. They also have wooden rocking chairs, sometimes they sell plants, they always have bread, cokes, some whole-wheat and locally made jellies and such. 5. Friendly service. Last but definitely not least, the people here are always very nice. They'll even load your items in your car if you ask (sometimes they offer). They're always nice and helpful. Southside Produce is a nice, average sized, open air produce market. They sell fresh vegetables and fruit, along with frozen no salt added veggies and fruit. They carry smith's creamery dairy products as well, and have some locally made canned jams, preserves and sauces. Sometimes they have boiled peanuts. The staff is very nice. more
