I have taken my pets here for many years. My pomeranian was a stray and had heartworm when I got him. Dr. Baumgart cured him and now he is a healthy happy 10 year old. Ive noticed...

We have two cats Sadie and Pumpkin and they love Dr. Baumgart. We chose this place because they love him so much. I've never seen anything like it. We get their annual shots here and recommend him to everyone. more

Our puppy vin diesel was vomiting and wouldn't stop. We brought him into to Southport Pet Hospital and turns out he had parvo. We didnt' have no money so we signed up for care credit and we were approved. He was very reasonable and saved our little puppy. We will never forget it. more

My dog Karly wasn't feeling well and vomiting. We brought him in to Southport Pet Hospital and Dr. Baumgart removed a corn cob from the dog. She is doing great. Thank you. more

We bring our pets here every year for vaccinations. Dr. Baumgart is really good with our cats and he has reasonable prices. I recommend this doctor. more

We brought our dog Sparky in because he was limping. Dr. Baumgart did a knee surgery on her and she was walking again in a few days. Great staff too!! Thank you again. We recommend everyone to you. more

Stay away! 1/30/2012

Please do not take your pets here! Dr. Baumgart Jr. does not provide quality care to his patients. He cares about money more than the animals and it clearly shows. He performs surgeries that he is not competent in doing and charges for treatments that are never performed! Clients are always kept waiting for appointments, sometimes up to 30 minutes. Animals here are left in cages with no heating or air conditioning and the Dr. never checks on them. Hospitalized patients never receive the proper care but owners are charged regardless. Do not let your pet out of sight if you do visit Southport Pet Hospital. more

This doctor does not care about the well being of his patients. He lies about very important things such charging the fee of administering a treatment to a patient, and not really administering it. He is inexperienced in certain surgeries but will do the surgery anyway just to get money for it. He is more concerned about not letting his clinic go under than the health of his patients. My guess is that this clinic will not be around much longer. Trust me, do not bring your pet here if he is going to be responsible for it behind closed doors (surgeries, boarding, hospitalization) because you will NEVER know if he did what he really said he did or not and you will also never know if your pet experienced something traumatic here. Purchasing preventatives here is the only money I would ever give this clinic, if I absolutely had to. Pros: null Cons: null more

Do not go here 6/28/2010

I took my pets to see Dr. Baumgart Jr. He was an excellent doctor and explained everything really well. He also took the time to explain the costs of the procedures. I found out recently that he is no longer part of the practice. I took my pets there while he was on vacation and had to see his father Dr. Baumgart Sr. My dog came in happy and healthy and ended up walking out of there on deaths doorstep. Dr. Baumgart Sr. put my dog on all these meds it did not need to be on and it almost killed it. He was very rude to me and also to his staff. He is completely disrespectful and to be honest I think he is a little senile. As long as Dr. Baumgart Sr. is running the practice I do not recommend anyone taking their pet there. This is not 1970, he needs to stop practicing medicine from it! more

Ive noticed that Dr. Baumgart does not push other services or tests on you to make money. He really cares about the animals he works with and tries to make your visit as least expensive as possible. I have recommended him to my family and now he sees my grandpa's 14 year old dog also. We are very happy with Southport Hospital and recommend them if you want a doctor that cares more about animals than money. more

Dr. Baumgart Jr. is dedicated to performing quality medicine and service to you and your family pets. We carry the best and we don't shop for bargains. If you have an emergency or just need vaccinations please don't hesitate to call our office. ** We provide orthopedic procedures! As far as surgeries we routinely spay and neuter pets. We also provide other soft tissue surgeries depending on the needs of the patient. During surgery we monitor our patients with monitoring equipment and use the best anesthetics available for veterinary use. We have a fully equipped hospital and provide medical care and hospitalization. We provide emergency services; however, we are not a 24 hour emergency facility. We take emergency calls after hours at the doctor's discretion. We have our own in-house testing equipment which tests complete blood count, chemistry, blood gas and urinalysis. We also provide dog grooming at low a competitive pricing as well. We also provide boarding facilities. We would be happy to schedule an appointment for you.
