  • Founded in 1995 by three left handed veterinarians with a dream to offer the best in specialty veterinary medicine to the veterinarians, pets and pet owners of the Greater DC Area, SouthPaws provides ?all-under-one-roof? compassionate, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive specialty and emergency care.

    Specialty veterinary medicine addresses major, life-threatening, challenging or difficult health problems in pets. Specialists undergo two to four years of advanced training following completion of their veterinary doctoral degree. They then complete rigorous qualification procedures/examinations in order to be called ?specialists?.

    SouthPaws has specialists providing care in our surgery, oncology, internal medicine, radiology, neurology/neurosurgery, ophthalmology, holistic medicine/acupuncture, and rehabilitative therapy departments. Our CritiCare department offers twenty-four hour admissions for urgent, critical or emergency patients, and provides continuous care including weekends and holidays.

    In addition to our exceptional staff, SouthPaws offers ultrasonagraphic examinations, neuroelectrodiagnostics, complete endoscopy services, laparoscopy, digital radiography and fluoroscopy, linear accelerator for radiation therapy, I-131 therapy for hyperthyroid cats, 3D Spiral CT scanner, respiratory ventilators, and five enclosed surgical suites with complex anesthetic monitoring equipment here ? and ready to be used to provide the best care possible for your pet.
