This visit was the first for my family and I. The food was over salted (could hardly taste it for the salt), the cornbread was made earlier in the day or the prior night. The meat...

YUCK AND GOD AWFUL 6/28/2010

I had always wanted to try The Southern Skillet because its hard to find good southern food. So I thought, 'Lets go to a place that has been around for awhile and lets read the reviews before we go'. I logged on, read the reviews and in my opinion, people really didn't say bad things about the place. So I took a chance and I always try to find good things to discuss about a restaurant but this place made me sick, literally. Pros: Nothing good about it Cons: Dirty bathroom and bad smell more

Lost something over the years 1/24/2010

Having lived in the Roswell area for the past 16 years, my family has been to the folksy Southern Skillet several times before, but about 8 years have passed since our last visit. This has always been a fairly popular place with the natives for their ""meat and three."" It has a cluttered country store atmosphere dating back to 1980, when such a look was popular. Pros: Good sweet tea Cons: Grubby place needs major work more

Excellent Breakfast after those drinking nights! 12/29/2009

Reminds me of the old time five and dime stores full of old time memories, signs, AUTHENTIC collectibles. Seemed like many locals visit, eat, and socialize. Was sitting eating breakfast and i saw at least 5 different people stroll in and speak with others that they knew who were also in the restaurant. Need to check out their extensive lunch men as well soon. Pros: Fresh Biscuits, Hash, Chicken fried chicken w/ eggs!! Cons: Parking is pretty packed on the weekends. more

Best Southern Fare for the Price 11/9/2009

Quaint, Restaurant is full of nostalgic signs and memorabilia from both national and local businesses. Brings back memories of true southern dives that are filled with locals, excellent value, and good old fashioned southern fare - Much better than any chain such as cracker barrel or folks. Biscuits and Cornbread are best the earlier you get there, breakfast is surprisingly served all day, and you cant beat their fried chicken and vegetables!! They even serve old classics like Calves & Chicken Livers...mmmm!! Pros: Fresh Ingredients, Breads baked onsite, excellent vegetables Cons: Bad Location; No dinner hours, Old location more

Lost in the Shuffle... 3/12/2009

One of those independents that get lost in the shuffle vs the exposure of big chains....Had the fried chicken and was honestly the best that i've ever had. Veggies were excellent as well as husband's chicken and dumplings. Located in a area of Roswell that is going down hill (near the beautiful historic square - which is definitely worth a visit), but was told that the area used to be the center of Roswell activity. Quaint atmosphere if you get past the bad shopping center exterior. We definitely need more of these types of family restaurants! I dont know what the other review was about...maybe they were yankees w/o any real knowledge of good home cookin' - guess they're used to processed food, lol!! Pros: Extensive menu that includes breakfast, lunch, burgers, salads, and vegetables. Kid friendly. Big restaurant, probably seats over 150 people. Cons: Bad location, seemed understaffed although servers were extremely friendly, closed at night time. more

You have to go at least once! 12/1/2008

Its not quaint or fancy, but this place is the best southern breakfast in the area! A true part of Roswell history. more

Dissapointed 11/24/2008

As I have eaten here for years, it used to be great. Now, though, just the idea of associating the word clean and this resturant make me want to laugh. It is sad, but the food is just as bad as their idea of proper cleanliness. I do not know, why, but it has taken a sharp turn for the worse. Cons: Food and Cleanliness more

Best ""Southern"" food in Roswell 12/26/2007

The Southern Skillet is a great restaurant that seems to be missed by most people here. They have many delicious items that rotate daily. Especially good is the squash casserole and the roast beef, but those are just a couple of examples. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended. Pros: Great food, reasonable prices, friendly staff Cons: Sometimes fresher than others, depending on time of day more

Not that Southern!! 7/20/2007

This visit was the first for my family and I. The food was over salted (could hardly taste it for the salt), the cornbread was made earlier in the day or the prior night. The meatloaf was in a word, terrible. The only edible thing that we found was the banana pudding, if you could get past the black banana's. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Cons: Salty food, day old breads. more
