I lost my L S U southern cookbook at this place and they still use it. 12/3/2008

I have been around the SK since Rose decided to buy out owner Tom Ward. She made the commitment to hold the standards of the food served to the best possble tastes, portions, varieties, service and value. Everything is great and the wait is worth it. I just wish I could get my Louisiana State University cookbook back which Rose promised long ago in 1997. more

There Otta Be A Law 8/3/2008

Really disappointing experience. We have taken relatives and friends to Southern Kitchen for years and the past 3 experiences have been a real disappointment. Despite the long waits, the food quality has definitely changed for the worse, strange grits, tough eggs, holandaise sauce that two at the table suggested might be right out of a can. When our guest from out of state approached the manager, possible owner, to comment that the bisquits served to our table were stale, his response ""but we baked them yesterday"". When we then mentioned that the water glass he had been using was delivered to the table with a huge red lipstick stain, the manager/owner responded ""Yeah, There Otta Be a Law"" .\r \r With other fine restaurants available in Los Gatos, we will pass on the Souther Kitchen the next time we entertain guests in LG. more

The world's best grits!!! 7/6/2008

My Husband and I are from Nashville visiting the northern California area. We always try to find good local restaurants to eat at. I found this place by reading the reviews from Citysearch. This place was great, when we arrived on a Sunday it was about 10:30 and we had less than a 5 minute wait. The food goes from super heavy to light and healthy. I had the mushroom and cheese omlette with artichokes and jack cheese. It was served with crisoy hashbrowns, superb! My Husband had the eggs benedict with bacon and creamy grits, they were awsome! Highly recommend this place, cool people, good service and solid food selections. Pros: Parking, food quality, food quanity, service Cons: small space more

One visting the Nor Cal bay area should not fail to put this location on your itinerary. Eat anyway you want to at the SK, light, medium or heavy. You'll find a variety of wonderful home style dishes to satisfy your breakfast and lunch cravings. If your lucky you'll get some fried green tomatoes. You wouldn't be disappointed with any of the unique and original style recipes. Come early to beat the crowd (all week, 7-days). Anticipate a slight wait. Coffee is provided while you wait. This was a little whole in the wall, but the kind we love. The food was fantastic and we were served promptly. We ordered a side of hashbrowns and got Idaho ! talk about value ! prices vary, but great service 11/8/2005

I've been going to Southern Kitchen for as long as I can remember (at least 12 years). The fare is pretty good - my family, when we go, usually orders exactly the same thing, but the price varies depending on who writes up the bill (+/- 1.50), which is kind of weird. Plates bigger than your head! 1/13/2003

I've been going to Southern Kitchen for breakfast for about 3 years now. I LOVE IT! They have a wonderful variety of dishes! They PILE the food on your plate, the service is GREAT, and the food is DELICIOUS! They even have some healthy dishes on the menu. The chile verde is awesome, the chicken-fried steak comes with a wonderful THICK gravy, with huge pieces of bacon and sausage, and the chorizo plate comes with soft flour tortillas. MMMM. I go to the Country Kitchen at least 2 times a week, and I find the staff and food put me in the right mood to start my day off right. I espically recommend Chef Leo's special. Delicious downhome breakfasts 7/27/2002

Relatively simple fare, although some of the weekend specials expand beyond basic. I have only eaten breakfast there, so I have no idea about the quality of their lunches or dinners. Omelettes are huge and packed with fresh goodies, hashbrowns yummy, pancakes quite good. Service is friendly and efficient, but the restaurant tends to get crowded with families (i.e., loud kids). Best Breakfast in LG 5/16/2002

Southern Kitchen provides a varitey of tasty breakfast dishes for everyone from the Eggs Florentine to the Blueberry Bannana Pancakes to the huge 3-4 egg omletes. The key to this popular Silicon Valley spot is to arrive early- by 9:00am you have the joggers from LG Trail and the late night folks lining up for the great food. Great service from long-time happy staff. more
