This quiet Sno-Park is a bit more rustic than some, but the challenging forest trails are a joy to the intermediate cross-country skier. The Loup Loup Ski Bowl across the road provides most of South Summit's amenities, including food in the lodge as well as ski rentals. You'll find restrooms there, too, but outhouses are conveniently located at the trailhead.
Directions: The drive takes roughly 4.5 hours from Seattle. Follow Interstate 5 north to U.S. Highway 2, taking the latter east to Wenatchee. Turn north on U.S. Highway 97 and continue past Chelan to state Route 153. Head northwest on Route 153 through the town of Methow to state Route 20. Head east on Route 20 until you get to the Loup Loup Summit. South Summit Sno-Park is on the right, across from the Loup Loup Ski Bowl. (Don't be tempted to head east across the Cascades via Route 20 in winter; the pass is almost always closed.)
