Great Church for those who are seeking 10/20/2009

Pastor Paul Robie has a heart for the mission field that is Utah. With so many people going to church, yet so many not knowing who Christ really is, his sermons are geared to that reality. There are certainly deeper, theological, and philosophical sermons that I have heard in my life. But SMCC (South Mountain Community Church) doesn't exist for the sole purpose of edifying current Christians. The main focus of SMCC is reaching the lost. In fact, the pastor sometimes asks the Christians to be ""mature"" in their faith and show deference to the guests. Which, if you ask me, is the correct way of looking at it anyway. This isn't to say that the sermons are watered down, or ""feel good"" type sermons. They are Bible based with plenty of Scripture to back up the points that are being made. The sermon's are just ""back to the basics"" of what being a Christian really is. It's a place you could take a non-Christian friend, without worrying about the pastor bashing other religions or faiths. Also, if you're seeking the truth about Jesus, it's a safe place to come and not feel pressured or singled out. The people dress casual (blue jeans, tee-shirts, shorts) as well as professional, so whatever you wear, you won't stand out. The worship style is typical praise and worship, with a slight rock bent. Lead Guitar, Keyboards, Bass Guitar, Drums and a couple of vocalists that all have amazing God-given gifts. Total service time lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes, and there are several service times. Starting Nov 1 2009, you can choose 9am, 10:45am, and 12:30pm. Bottom line? If you are looking for a place to come and get your head filled with deep theological content like religious college, this is not that place. But, if you have a heart for those who don't know Christ, or if you are looking for the real Christ, I cannot imagine a better place for you. Check out smccutah (dot) org if you want to know more! Pros: Very welcoming, Bible based, easy to understand sermons. Cons: none! more
