Consistently excellent food and unpretentious atmosphere 11/8/2008

Tonight was our third visit and each time Sophia's Grotto has been a real treat! The chicken dish, the salmon with mustard, the veal medallions, and the pasta dishes are superb. The Boston lettuce salad with raisins and blue cheese is delish. Sonia, the hostess, is welcoming and efficient. The waitstaff is always friendly, and attentive. The drinks are widely varied. Wish there were more dessert selections, but overall a great place to meet friends and enjoy very good food. Sit outside on a warm evening, but inside is fine if weather does not permit. more

service and food stink 9/19/2008

I felt ignored. The food was cold and not very tasty.and staff was more interested in talking amongst themselve. Outside dining area was dirty. Manager was not around to give my comments. I needed silverware and glasses were dirty. I will not be back more

Doesn't live up to the hype 7/16/2008

I don't know how it is my husband and I have given this place so many shots to impress. Maybe it's because it's always crowded and we're giving the place the benefit of the doubt. But enough is enough. We've been 8 times, 50% of the time it was awful. The first awful time, we literally had to wipe dressing off of a drowned caesar salad to eat it. (Why we didn't send it back, I don't know!) Several times the food has been gratuitously over-salted to the point we swore we'd never be back. And the very last time we went, my husband got a chicken sandwich with fries. The fries were soggy and greasy, obviously undercooked, we literally ate only two. The chicken was puny and charred beyond palatable. We were fed up and finally had the guts to send a dish back at this place. The server did take it off the bill, but then avoided our table the rest of the night. We waited 1/2 hour for the check, paid in cash, and he shorted us ten dollars in change (hopefully an accident). If you're hellbent on going, a safe bet is the Vesuvio pizza. Otherwise, choose one of the neighboring restaurants: The Bistro, Delfino's or Village Sushi. more

Courtyard is wonderful in nice weather 5/29/2007

Had dinner in the courtyard last night. The food was outstanding and the service pleasant but not imposing. \r \r This is my fourth time dining at Sophia's and each time has been pleasant with friendly service and great food! Pros: food, service, neighborhood, courtyard seating Cons: First-time visitors may have a hard time finding it more

Worst dining experience 8/14/2006

Dinner here was a very bad experience; very unprofessional wait staff and food is mediocre; don't waste your time or money on this place!! Pros: ambience Cons: service is beyond bad more

the coziest place 2/9/2006

This restaurant is very warm and inviting. My husband and I had a party of 15 to celebrate his parent's wedding anniversary and all our guests LOVED the food, the service, everything was fabulous. Being that its walking distance from our home we surely visit a lot. Actually valentines day is just around the corner ! more

Don't miss it 10/30/2005

Gotta Love Sophia's! 9/13/2005

What a wonderful addition to Roslindale Village! The restaurant is charming, the owner and staff are very welcoming, and the food is delicious! Sitting outside in the courtyard on a nice warm summer evening, you just can't beat it! A wonderful place to become a ""regular"" because you'll always feel welcomed! And to that, I say, ""Welcome to the Village, Sophia's!"" ~Tim. Pros: Easy to get to, Walking distance, Welcoming owner/staff more
