In a world of ubiquitous online retailing, not to mention digital file-sharing and the iPod phenomenon, it's hard to predict the future of the neighborhood record store. All the more reason to support *your* neighborhood record store.
If you live in Seattle, my recommendation for that neighborhood store is Sonic Boom records. With locations in Fremont, on Capitol Hill and (the newest and largest store) on Market St. in Ballard, Sonic Boom is hands-down the best local source for everything pop music - from new and used CDs, to local concert tickets, to in-store performances from great local and national bands.
Add to that the fact that they're a local, independent store that's bucking the national trend (slavish implementation of major-label promotions for useless bands, shrinking margins, bankruptcy, etc.) with smart, customer-oriented business practices, and it's practically your duty as a music lover to stop in and check them out. Make it so!
