We've had some fun times at Sole Sapori in the 11 years we've lived in Mt. Horeb. There was the time we waited 30 minutes for a menu before walking out. There was the pizza that tasted suspiciously of cigarette ash. When my out of town guests suggested ordering 2 stuffed pizzas last night, we were cautiously optimistic that things had changed for the better under new ownership. While the crust did not taste of cigarettes, the pizzas were not as good as they used to be. It used to be that a stuffed pizza was indeed stuffed. These pizzas were more like thin crust pizzas with a chewy top. The pepperoni was so sparse that at first we thought we'd received a cheese pizza. The spinach pizza had what we thought were a handful of green beans, but no spinach. A green bean pizza. That's funny! Oh, Sole Sapori, you minx. That's something I can laugh about over coffee with friends. But the pizzas overall? Decidedly un-funny. When I called to complain, the conversation turned into an ugly debate over whether we had beans or asparagus. They eventually apologized and offered to re-make the pizza. I declined. I wish they hadn't made the first two.
