OMG - too many years to count... 1/29/2011

I've been lunching (or breakfasting) at SH for .... longer than I should admit... My dad started taking me there as a small child. Last time there I had my children (and soon to be - 1st grandchild) with me... My dad even dated the original owner for a while... What fond memories: the BEST potato saled! (sorry mom). I will visit again on my next trip home.. to SM. more

Blast from the Past 1/13/2009

This pseudo-greasy spoon is not bad in a pinch for a quick sit down breakfast. If you are a 50s diner enthusiast you?ll think it feels like an authentic dinner-type place back east. It?s just a little on the grimy side for my taste. Pros: OK theme, reasonable fare more

Classic Greasy Spoon, California Style 7/29/2008

If you're like most Angelenos and are in fact actually relocated East coast or Midwesters then Snug Harbor is going to feel a lot like home. Walking in almost makes you forget you just walked off of Wilshire, and instead you feel like kids might have their bikes parked outside, and a waitress named Mae or Fran might come up and offer you a bowl of peach cobbler. While this doesn't exactly happen, Snug Harbor is as close to a classic greasy spoon, neighborhood restaurant as you're ever going to find in LA. Though they do offer traditional diner food like biscuits and gravy, etc (food your mother would call ""real food""). There are a lot of healthy, more typically LA options like veggie burgers, etc. (food your mother would grimace at and poke with a fork). Regardless, all of it is pretty good, though I think more than anything here it's about the atmosphere. more

The Snug = Best Hangover Cure Ever 7/8/2008

Snug Harbor is the amazing kind of breakfast diner you usually expect to find somewhere in Massachusetts and/or in a Springsteen song. The day after I've spent a late night at Sonny McCleans, I generally spend a late morning at the Snug. The food is really great, sticks to your bones, and soaks up any remaining booze in your system. They also have vegetarian options, including veggie chorizo, which was a welcome surprise for me (a vegetarian) at a place that otherwise looks like they might scoff at the word ""tofu."" On weekend mornings there is sometimes a wait, but there are chairs outside where you can sit in the sun, and the waitresses are usually willing to bring you waters or coffee outside while you wait (so you can slowly become a whole person again). Pros: Great atmosphere, perfect hangover cure, best breakfast in the neighborhood, veggie options (including veggie chorizo!) Cons: Sometimes there's a bit of a wait on the weekends more

Amazing! 7/18/2007

I am so glad I went here, based on the many reviews here. While many people were trying to get seats (some of whom were a bit snutty) my girlfriend and I sat the counter. Fast and friendly service while tons of people waited outside. If there are more than two of you, plan to wait 30 minutes on the weekend. But it is worth it! Coconut chocolate pancake are the most amazingly awesome things ever. Pros: Awesome food, cool scene Cons: Long wait if you don't sit at the counter more

Come for the tuna melt, stay for the yam fries 10/5/2006

Just a great great lunch spot, bottom line. It'll take up your entire lunch hour, but you won't regret it. Fantastic food at affordable prices, with a nice atmosphere, that's Snug Harbor to a T. Pros: The yam fries folks, they're something to write home about. Cons: Parking $ucks, but that's LA more

yummy, cheap & fast 6/5/2005

snug harbor has become my favorite spot for weekend brunch... yeah, the parking situation sucks (as it does everywhere in SaMo), and it does get really crowded so expect a 15-30 minute wait. but, the environment is casual and laidback and mostly free of the ""special-ness"" that invades so many westside spots; the blueberry pancakes and the yummy scramble combos are NOT to be missed; and the service is friendly, fast and attentive. Pros: great food, great service Cons: no parking, long wait more

Old school breakfast place 3/14/2005

A favorite of mine for Sunday brunch. Old school breakfast - no need to be healthy here. There's an omelette with polish sausage that is tasty - and just about everything else i've tried is great. Very crowded as expected, so you will have to wait - but usually the turnaround is quick. more

Snug, but very cosy. 9/7/2004

This is another one of those little known, local hangouts that is a rare find. I really appreciate a place that puts some flair on old, time-worn breakfast fare, and also shows off with their creativity. Snug Harbor is just such a place. With just a few time-worn tables and a small counter inside. But outside is a great patio! The server was very attentive, and the bus-boy kept our coffee cups full. Parking is difficult, but once you're seated just relax and enjoy yourself. It'll be hard not to. Pros: Quality food, Creative Menu, Large Portions more

Snug Harbor 6/24/2004

this is the ""little spot that nobody knows about"". It's very kid friendly and it also works for those who just want a yummy meal with a friend. From healthy tofu omelettes to juicy messy burgers, the food's fantastic. The waitresses who will get to know you quickly add to the place, as well. Get there before 9AM on the weekends and there will be no wait...but if you don't, even the stars wait here. Enjoy!! Pros: tasty big portions, friendly atmosphere, cozy meeting spot more

It's Ok. 2/26/2003

I was actually expecting a lot more from this place, but it wasn't at all what I expected. The food wasn't anything special and the service was mediocre. The coffee wasn't that good either. I don't think I would go back... more
