I recently learned the ownership at Snug Harbor changed after my wedding in 2009 at Snug Harbor, so I hope the new management provides better customer service, so that way the gem that is Snug Harbor isn't lost for future patrons. However, my direct experience with Snug Harbor Restaurant & Inn, when it was still owned by the past owner, leads me to recommend that people do not patronize Snug Harbor for formal events. Going to Snug Harbor for a normal restaurant meal should be fine since the location is lovely and the food is great. However, before you decide to have your formal event at Snug Harbor, please read about my wedding experience at Snug Harbor:
Snug Harbor Restaurant & Inn is a gem of a location, which is why my husband and I picked it for our intimate wedding. However, we had serious problems with customer service. The general manager and/or main employee in charge of special events customers changed five times during the course of our dealings with the restaurant, including the abrupt and bizarre departure of the then-manager between our wedding rehearsal and the ceremony on the following day. It was nerve-wracking and scary for me as a bride planning her wedding day to have my main point of contact with the business change five times in the five months before the wedding and even on the weekend of the wedding. The most bizarre turn in the management saga occurred when I returned to sleep in Snug Harbor's suite the night before the wedding with my girlfriends. I discovered that the bed in the main bedroom of the suite was made up with a comforter but no sheets. The manager was all apologies as she sought to make up the bed; but she couldn't manage to find the right sheets for the bed and instead she made the bed up with a top sheet that came off the mattress by the end of the night. The manager was very apologetic about the lack of sheets on the bed, and she entered her cell phone number into my phone in case I had questions; she promised that she would be on the premises to set up the wedding details at 10 a.m., and that everything would be fine for my wedding day. However, on the morning of the wedding as I dressed, I learned that the manager was no longer working at Snug Harbor after finding out there was confusion over how the tables were to be set up in the main reception room.
Overall, things did turn out fine during the day. We were pleased with the food, and service was timely. We had fantastic weather, and the customer service problems didn't impact the romance of the occasion and the happiness we felt in sharing our wedding with our family and friends. However, there were other slight, but forgivable, errors during the reception. Half of the top of the wedding cake, which was to be saved for our one-year anniversary, was served to guests. The champagne for the wedding toasts was not served on time. Several of my friends said they had bar tabs listing drinks they did not order. The chairs for our guests to sit in during the wedding ceremony were not set up by Snug Harbor staff, but by my friends who I had asked to set out our wedding decorations. And during the year of making arrangements for the wedding, we were never informed that there was going to be a rental charge for the chairs.
Despite the quality of the establishment's food and the prettiness of the inn, I would never recommend another couple holding their wedding at the restaurant -- unless they can establish to their satisfaction that the new management is more competent - because of the worry caused to my husband and me.
