Great Bbq in the Smokies 8/1/2005

I've been a regular customer at Smokin' Joes since they forst opened in a tiny log cabin restaurant near the corner of 321 and 73 in Townsend. I was very impressed with the open-pit bbq. The bbq sandwiches are excellent as well as the sauce. They have since moved up the road to a larger building and have seating both inside and also outside with a view of the river. The chicken was fantastic as well as the potato skins. Oh, and the sweet ea is ice cold and comes in a huge glass. Pros: Good bbq, Good sauce, excellent sweet tea more

bar-b-que the way it ought to "B" 3/15/2005

the combo is the way to go and the briskit is worthy of an award! my boyfriend and i enjoyed an evening of smoked bar-b-que in the beautiful smokey mountains. we highly recommend smokin' joe's to locals and tourists alike! we even took home a bottle of sauce with our choice of heat level which was the hottest called "smoke". great job joe! Pros: food, service, sauce Cons: lighting, need more signage more

we happen to LOVE smokin' joe's--we think it is the best barbecue we've ever had!! every year we go to the smokies and we ALWAYS eat at joe's. they absolutely cook over an open pit--we met smokin joe out back in the smokehouse and he showed us how he smokes the meat. what a nice man he was! huge portions of fall-off-the-bone ribs and brisket and pulled pork, and the spicy sauce is outta this world! we know bbq in st louis and smokin joes is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you like open pit BBQ, don't eat here 12/10/2002

They claim to have BBQ cooked in an "open pit", so we decided to give it a try. It was awful!! The ribs had been cooked in the oven, not in an open pit. Service was also bad, our waitress came back only to bring us the check. We got charged for something she never even brought us. I would not recommend it to anyone who has had "real open pit" BBQ. more
