Terrible experience at the dentist: do not go here 7/11/2012

Dr. Larrick was awful. Totally unprofessional, unhygienic and unfriendly. First of all, the office is cluttered with a bunch of junk, smells bad and is not clean at all. Second, I waited a total of 45 minutes to have my teeth cleaned even though I didn't see any other patients there waiting. Dr. Larrick did the 'cleaning' because his hygienist was out and he did a terrible job. Several of the instruments didn't work properly, he didn't even do the scaling/scraping part at all, just started spraying my mouth with that bitter, gritty, pasty stuff. While he sprayed, he was turned to the side, not concentrating on what he was doing and literally sprayed all over my face, up my nose, in my hair...I'm not exaggerating, I was covered in the stuff. Then the water hose thing didn't work so I couldn't rinse and he just went right into the next thing--putting 'Cavitron'? on my teeth and then asked an assistant to floss my teeth. That was it. The whole appointment. I take good at home care of my teeth but due to not having insurance/money for years as a student, I hadn't been to the dentist in 5 years and was expecting to get a rather intense cleaning to get rid of plaque/tartar, etc. He didn't even look at my teeth at all. He just went right into the spray cleaning thing, which I doubt was even very effective since he was barely even getting my teeth and wasn't looking at what he was doing. He made terrible jokes the whole time, was not personable at all, didn't ask me any questions about anything. He wasn't wearing scrubs or a mask, he had gloves on but he put them on first, before getting his utensils out/ready and was wearing the gloves while he opened cabinets and drawers, rested his hand on the counter with the gloves on, etc. Disgusting. I should have gotten up out of the chair and walked out. I can't believe I had a $40 co-pay for this, it was ridiculous. A toddler could have done a better job with that spraying tool and would probably have had a more professional attitude too. Now I've got to look for a new dentist. more

Dr. Bruce Larrick 11/17/2011

I have been a patient with Smiles on 13th for the past 5 years. Dr. Larrick's office is very unique. But if you are looking for a Dentist who you can talk to and who cares about you as a patient Dr. Larrick is that Dentist. Through his conservative dentistry he has provided low cost and practically pain free care for me and my wife. He has repaired some bad work from a previous dentist, and sent us to a specialist only when absolutely necessary. I have had need to call him at home and he met the need that we had. I trust Dr. Larrick and he will continue to be my dentist. more

Now happily go to the dentist for cleaning and maintenance... 10/11/2011

I have never liked going to the dentist but the experience with Dr Larrick and his staff may have changed my mind for good. Even just having my teeth cleaned was a hated thing for me and almost always hurt and at the very least was uncomfortable. My cleaning at Dr Larrick's office was super...didn't hurt at all and was done very different than any I had ever experienced before. I also had an issue with a crown that did not fit right. Many dentists may have considered a root canal but Dr Larrick did all he could to avoid that and save my tooth. Thank you Dr Larrick and staff...I will definitely see you again! more

Excellent 4/11/2011

As a physician I was very impressed with Dr. Larrick. He takes time with his patients to explain their dental care, and his approach to dentristy. He uses up to date science and technology and explains the reason and science behind his practice. He is very easy going, and has great bedside manner. The office is not typical of what you would expect from a dentist, but the decor is very intriguing, and can provide some great conversation, as Dr. Larrick is proud to discuss the origin of all of the pieces on the walls. I was very impressed with the staff, and the ease of scheduling. I would highly recommend Dr. Larrick more

Horrible Experience!! 4/6/2011

Called a month ago to schedule an appointment for today, however; today they had no recollection of the phone conversation ever taking place and said there was no appointment for my husband and I. Receptionist was rude on the phone. Will not attempt to go back more

Dr. Larrick is a superb dentist! 1/20/2011

Let me tell you a little story. Here I am, in agony...and I do mean agony. I had had a tooth pulled, and nothing was touching the pain. Even though I hated to do it, I called Dr. Larrick at home. Do you know this man met me on a Sunday afternoon at his office to help take away the pain from my tooth extraction? I was so grateful. I later called him back just to thank him, and told his wife that I was going to build a monument to him in my front yard. I've been a patient of Dr. Larrick's for about 9 years. Whenever I've needed him, he has fit me into his schedule, no problem. His staff is great..they always make me feel like family when I"m there. I can't recommend Dr. Larrick and his staff enough. more

We love Dr. Smiles 9/30/2010

My first exposure to this office was for an emergency. I loved the masks and all the decorations in Dr. Larrick's office. It kept my mind off of my tooth. My children LOVE comming to the dentist due to the office enviroment and the staff. They have been nothing but kind to all of us. My 9 year old son has just had some teeth pulled. He refered to the numbing needle as a Mosquito bite. I am ashamed at some of the rude comments being posted about this office. We are a community that prides itself for its ability to accept those who are different. Just because this office has character is not a reason to blast it. So what if you are afraid of the decor...go to a boring office and have your kid watch tv in the ceiling. Don't dump on this one just because he dares to be diffrent. more

THE WORST OFFICE EVER!!! 2/24/2009

I TOOK MY KIDS THERE YESTERDAYFOR THEIR FIRST APPOINTMENT. THE OFFICE IS DIRTY THEY HAVE SCARY MASKS EVERYWHERE AND REALLY WEIRD THINGS ON THE WALLS. DR.BRUCE DIDN'T WEAR GLOVES AND HAD WHITE STUFF ALL OVER HIS MOUTH AND LOOKED DIRTY HIMSELF. I WILL NEVER TAKE MY KIDS BACK THERE. THE ONLY WAY TO DISCIBE IT IS GROSS....... more

GOOD DENTIST! 7/10/2008

I've been going to Dr. Larrick for years now and find that he does very good work. He has saved a couple of my teeth that were beyond saving. Sure he's from New York and might seem a bit gruff for southern tastes but the way I look at it I'm going to get my teeth fixed not going to a spa. more

Great Dentist 3/13/2008

I can't speak for the misdiagnoses one reviewer described, but I received extraordinary care from Dr. Bruce. I went to him when my mouth was literally falling apart--multiple teeth that needed fixing and new problems coming up every week--and he went out of his way to get me fixed up. He spent a great deal of time with me, often saw me at the last minute and went so far as to give his home phone number when I was having a problem. His staff is also excellent. As far as him being rude--he's a New Yorker! He likes to give people a hard time and he's a goof ball. Just make fun of him and you'll have a good time with him. He does get stressed sometimes, but who doesn't? He's very busy. It's not your typical dentist office. It's a bit eccentric, but I enjoyed that and felt very cared for by Dr. Bruce and his staff. more

This man is a fraud.... 5/22/2007

Me and my husband went there yesterday for a check up, and the nurses were really nice. But Bruce Larrick is a unhearted dentist, and does know what he is talking about. He didn't wear scrubs, gloves, or a mask. He had something all over his mouth, and I couldn't believe that he told me that I had to have all of my teeth pulled and there was no saving any of them. I am 28 years old and I find it hard to believe that i have to get all of them taken out. Please do not go to this dentist.. more

Do not go to this Dentist! 12/26/2006

I developed a toothache with less than two weeks before Christmas. I thought it would pass, but after two days and the pain nearly bringing me to tears, I knew I needed to see the dentist. The company I worked for has dental insurance and Dr. Larrick was the dentist I selected for 2006. I called and was able to get in for an emergency appointment that Friday. When I got to the office I had to wait over an hour in the waiting room which I fully expected. I knew something was wrong and didn’t care how long it took to see the doctor. After I was taken back, the technician immediately gave me some topical stuff to numb the tooth because I was in so much pain. After the x-ray she took, she came back and told me there was a problem and that the dentist would be in to see me soon. After waiting another 90 minutes in the chair (also expected, it was an emergency appointment), the dentist dropped in. He told me that my wisdom teeth were killing my mouth and he would be back to talk to me soon. He then took me to another room as I waited while the exam room was cleaned. I was taken in the room, the dentist told me there was no problem and I needed to use Sensodyne toothpaste and he handed me the tube and sent me on my way. I tried to explain over and over again of the pain but he promised me if I rubbed this toothpaste on my sore tooth, the ache would go away. “Even the cavemen have tooth sensitivity, it will pass.” After sobbing in my car for 30 minutes, in complete disbelief that I was sent away with a bottle of toothpaste and a $20.00 co-pay, not to mention the pain, I left. I thought, “What the hell. He is a dentist and went to school.” So I started to rub this toothpaste on my sore molar. Living through the weekend was unbelievable and filled with pain. By Monday, I called the dentist I have had since I was a child but of course didn’t have insurance with. I explained my situation, told them about Dr. Larrick, and they asked me to come in ASAP. This review isn’t about the wonderful service I received that Monday, but of course, I was seen in minutes. An x-ray was taken at this new office and the dentist was in immediately in to see me. I had an infection in my jaw that was causing the pain and I needed an emergency root canal as soon as my antibiotics kicked in with an Endodontist. The dentist could clearly see in the x-ray that I had a problem and he understood the extreme pain I was in. I started antibiotics that day and was prescribed pretty heavy narcotics to get me through the pain until the root canal could be performed. When the root canal was performed, the infection had taken over my jaw and the smell and taste was absolutely disgusting. I had been left with painful infection that Dr. Larrick did not even take the time to address. He never even examined my mouth that Friday. I must be grateful because this poorly reviewed dentist (check out the web and read his other reviews, I challenge you to find a positive one) could have cut me open right there and left a nightmare in my mouth. I would have let him because I was in so much pain and I didn’t know better. If I could tell you, as the reader, one thing: Please don’t see this dentist. His technique and his patient care skills are awful. I have reported him to our benefits department and written letters about my experience. He does not care about patients and I had a problem that could have been worked on sooner. My pain did not matter, my opinion did not matter, nothing mattered but sending me out of that office with my tube of Sensodyne. more

the worst. 4/28/2006

dr. brude larrick. also known as dr smiles, is possibly the worst dentist i have heard of. i have never gone there myself at this location, but my friend went here and told me all about their terrible explerience with this dentist. he does not even care for the patients very well as a dentist should, the cavity pulling is bad because he is not careful and often trys to get it over with too quickly and doesnt try to give you a good job beacuse hes too busy and doesnt really care about you all that mnuch as long as he gets the money i guess. more

Dr. Bruce Larrick at Smiles on 13th St. is the worst dentist EVER. 4/19/2006

Dr. Larrick at Smiles on 13th St. is the worst Dentist ever. He is rude, unprofessional and cares nothing for the well being of his patients. The cleaning he gave me was the worst, most rushed cleaning I've ever had. He must be too cheap to hire a decent dental hygienist, and too proud to do the work decently himself, because he took absolutely no pride in the work he did. I will never go back to this office and I hope anyone wh reads this takes it seriously and doesn't go either. If you are on the Fortis state dental plan in Gainesville, FL, just suck it up and cancel as soon as you can, because all of the decent dentists do not take that plan, and there is a reason why Dr. Larrick takes new patients and no other dentists: because he SUCKS! Dr. Larrick is the WORST dentist EVER! more
