Smart Dogs Training and Lodging

We Have Trustworthy Dogs Now! We met Christy and Ian by accident (or for a reason) at the dog park one day and they were with their dogs. We couldn't believe how well-behaved they were so we asked them about it. We realized they could help us with our little Yorkie, Jack and Boston, Janie. First we did the training session at our house and then realized we just didn't have the time to follow through with the lessons between our work schedules and 4 kids. We decided to do the lodging and training program at their home since there were some issues that really needed to be addressed. They had already ruined our carpet & couches with bathroom issues and destoyed our backyard without reason. They were causing so much stress in our family we didn't know what to do. When we got Jack and Janie back we could not believe the difference. They have been back for 4 months now and have not had accidents since. They are totally trustworthy in the home which is something we never thought would be possible. The reason I am writing this is because I have been to other trainers and training facilities and have never received the level of professionalism and loving care that I did with Smart Dogs. These people are the nicest people I have ever met. I could tell they really care about dogs and making sure the success transfered to our home. Their communication was unbelievable. They always kept in touch and still follow up even to this day to make sure everything is going great. Their home was beautifully kept and I could tell they care about customer's comfort. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. We have our life back and they have more fun as well. I have my marriage back as well! I have told so many people about them! We are so thankful for Ian and Kristy! It is so relieving to know that our dog is treated as part of their family when we are away. We recently did the lodge and learn while we were out of town. They worked on her separation anxiety and leash walking. When we picked Bailey up, it was amazing! It is a great experience to go on walks now, and she also learned to run on the treadmill and alongside a bike. Kristy and Ian are fantiastic. Smart Dogs was not our cheapest option for dog training but it was well worth it. They listened so carefully to our needs and our concerns. We got a five month old puppy after our two adult dogs recently passed. She was a handful...especially when it can to her level of energy. Our puppy now is well trained and a significantly better listener. She runs on the treadmill and along side my bike which help burn of her excess energy. She no longer charges at the door when someone arrives. It was a great investment in a member of our family. Kristy and Ian took away the stress of dog training a new puppy. Their follow-up with us even after Poppy returned home helped us as a family make a smooth transition. Thank you SMART DOGS!!!!! more

We have two dogs, one 8 month puppy lab/golden mix and one very spoiled 7 year old pek/pug mix. We also also have three small children, so training our dogs to be good was very important. After dealing with our oldest dog snapping at our daughter and the puppy eating off my babies highchair, I realized I was in over my head and needed help.We called on Ian and Kristy after MANY positive reviews to help us with our puppy; little did we know they could also help us with our very aggressive older dog (before Smart Dogs we thought about giving her to other family members because she snapped). After we boarded and trained our dogs with them, we were amazed at how wonderfully trained they were; our puppy has become the most amazing listener to us - sits when asked, comes when called, stays sitting when doorbell rings, barks at strange noises but not at every noise - our dog Calleigh is amazing now - so calm, playful and obedient. Our older dog, whom we felt was too old to learn new tricks, has really changed around. Once a dog who snarled and growled at everything, who was so food, other dog and people aggressive has turned into that fun loving dog we used to know. Ian and Kristy have helped Bailey unlearn and relearn who is the pack leader (we had enabled Bailey to become the leader and us her followers, which made her confused and therefore, act out). By doing simple things, such as: us going in and out of the doors first, the dogs eating after us, etc..... our dogs now respect us as their leaders and them the followers, which has made them happier. I am so thankful for Kristy and Ian for helping our dogs and our family get trained - our home is so much more less stressed with two very obedient dogs, everyone is happier and we owe it to SMART DOGS. Our dog Bailey had the best time playing with Ian, Kristy, and the other dogs at their house. The have a huge backyard with an obstacle course, so we felt bad bringing Bailey back to our city loft! I cannot say enough good things about Kristy and Ian. Ian went on runs with Bailey, which was great! And when she came home she had a few good habits that we did not teach her, such as not jumping on people and eating her full meal in her crate. We just recently got married, and had to leave our puppy for almost three weeks for our wedding and honeymoon. I spent months worrying about what we would do when we left as I did not feel comfortable with some of the kennels in the city. I then found Smart Dogs, and they are amazing! I drove out to meet them and to see their enormous backyard. I knew that my puppy would be so happy with the owners as well as the accommodations. Not only did she have the yard to run around in, but she also was taken on runs frequently. It is so nice to know that there are people close that I can trust to take care of Bailey. We have had nothing but a wonderful experience with Kristy & Ian, owners of Smart Dogs Training & Boarding. Our experience has ranged from daycare to boarding to training. What stands out is Kristy & Ian's flexibility and professionalism. They have cheerfully accommodated sudden changes to our schedule, even keeping our dog, Edison, overnight with very little notice. Edison has spent one day each week this Summer with Smart Dogs for daycare. As a rescue, Edison has had a number of behavioral issues that have been very difficult to address on our own--anxiety, shyness, poor leash manners, and (our main concern) severe reactivity to other dogs. After only a single visit to daycare, Edison for the first time in his life was walking calmly and comfortably in the company of other dogs. This seemed like a miracle! Moreover, through Kristy & Ian's training, over the course of the season Edison has blossomed in confidence and security around strangers, both human and canine. He also has finally learned solid leash manners. We don't have to worry anymore about Edison pulling on the leash and putting on a loud, obnoxious display whenever he sees another dog. He is now calm and attentive and walks beside us without pulling; if he starts to react to another dog, he is quick to respond to correction and calm down. We are thrilled! Beyond daycare & training, Edison has boarded with Smart Dogs on a few occasions this Summer. We were initially nervous how he would react to this experience because of his issues with separation anxiety. But it quickly became clear that Edison's time boarding with Smart Dogs was only good for him. As owners, one benefit that came of Edison's times boarding is his willingness and ability to sleep quietly in his crate at night--even at home. Prior to his time boarding with Smart Dogs, Edison's separation anxiety was so severe he could not tolerate being in his crate. Yet another miracle!
