My husband and I went there on Feb. 7 for a date. We hadn't been there since they remodeled after their fire. The new decor is great - it feels cleaner than the old Slate's did. They have kept the artwork which was nice and to see the kitchen in action was nice too. To our surprise there was a man singing with a guitar which was nice. Nice waitperson as well. However, the food was not what we remember. Crabcakes were very small and not anything special. The flatiron steak was okay. The potatoes - supposed to be garlic potatoes - was about the size of one egg sized potato cut in half. The vegetables were carrots and rutabagas - one chunck of carrot and one chunk of rutabaga both were dry. That was it.
Pros: Candlelight, good service, organic choices
Cons: Larger groups were noisy. cold when diningroom door was used, strange portions, vegetables overcooked.
