Awesome bar! 4/5/2011

I have no clue why this place gets such a bad rap online! I played at an open mic night tonight and it was great! The servers were all attentive and caring, the food and drinks came out both promptly and correctly. All in all, it was a great night with friends! I'll definitely be heading back! more

I got sick! 12/30/2010

I had to check out the reviews and see what it was all about. New management, this place rocks etc. and an ok overall rating. Well I wish the staff and their friends would stop rating the place they work and have more real customers with their experiences because I would have saved my money and not get sick! The pizza was undercooked. The dough was like a sponge and the sauce was cold. After a slice I was done! I finished my beer (you can't screw that up can you?) and paid and got out of there. more

Disappointing 9/17/2010

This bar is going down hill. They have drink specials if Pabst Blue Ribbon is what you consider special. The bar is dead on most week nights. There are few good reasons to go to this bar with one of the best sports bars right across the street. The food is good for a bar but the ambiance is poor. Virtually no single women frequent the bar. I used to go to this bar fairly often to play free poker but will not be back. There are better places to spend my money. more

Amazing Turn Around 3/9/2010

Went to this bar when it was Grand Slam. Saw the name change and decided to give it another chance. I was very surprised with the changes. They now have a VIP Lounge with bottle service. They have drink specials on things that I actually drink. Not just the cheap stuff. My waitress had me spin a drink wheel to make a special. They changed it every 15 minutes. Definitely worth stopping in, if you have not been. Or if like me, give them a second chance. Pros: VIP Lounge, Cute Staff, Fun Atmosphere Cons: No Real Cons more

Great Place 2/24/2010

I read the review that iridedeadorlive wrote the one that is pretending to inspect restaurants for food and how clean or dirty they are. I could not believe What I was reading I have been in the restaurant business for years and I know how the health department works they check everything temp of stored food and cooked food how food is stored how clean the restaurant is in every corner I could go on and on. So I decided to check it out my self From the moment I walked in I was in AW this place is so clean and the staff is adorable I asked if I could talk to the owner in a matter of minutes a woman approached me with a big smile and asked me how she could help me. I told her about the review I read She invited me to check out the kitchen everything was great You really need to check this place out Pros: Great food very fun Atmospher for adults Cons: I really could not find any Cons more

This place is ROCKIN 12/18/2009

First time at this place last night. WOW! This place rocks. We started out at JD's Bait Shop across the street. borrrrrring. Nothing to do. GRAND SLAM had a LIVE Band and they were rocking! There is a cool back room with pool tables and Poker tables. Placed some poker (lost). Had the biggest Nacho plate and the most amazing Jalapeno poppers ever. Then we danced the night away. The staff is amazing and super fun. They had contests, GREAT DRINK Specials! and cool videos on a Ton of huge TV's. This is my new hang out!! See you there....... Pros: Live Band! Cool Staff more

This place (used to be) nice! 11/23/2009

I used to go here a lot a few years back when it had other owners. I enjoyed going to watch a game with some buddies or to get a beer after work. Since the new ownership took over, I don't go there anymore. The staff and level service is terrible! I ordered a chicken sandwhich that wasn't all the way cooked and when I asked to send it back, the waiter got a manager because I was being difficult! The manager who came over acted even ruder and told me that it was cooked fully and I should just try it. I thought the customer was always right?! Its very unfortunate that this place has new ownership because I used to enjoy going there. Now my money and all of my friends go to JD's Bait Shop right across the sreet. Pros: lots of beers on tap Cons: price, staff, management more

Awesome New Management & Great Place To Eat 7/11/2009

My wife and I were there for the UFC night and the place was hopping. Not only did they host the UFC fight, but they also had a live band afterward. We have been to a similar establishment in the Lower Downtown area many times and this place is, by far, more fun and inviting. From the wonderful food (we were there with other people and everyone was raving about it) to the ridiculous number of flat-screen TVs to the great live entertainment to the incredibly warm and attentive staff and the comfort of the hometown bar that we agreed was missing from the establishment in Lower Downtown, it is extremely hard to find an area where these guys are not providing first-class service. We met the new owners and they are wonderful people that are driven to make this not only a great place to bring your family, but also an exciting destination for top-notch nightlife! And, you can tell that they genuinely want you to feel at home, something you don't get a chain restaurants! If you were a customer of the previous Grand Slam under the old management, or have never been out there to check them out yet (as it was in our case), do yourself a favor and get out there to see what we're talking about! Pros: Caring Attentive Staff, Superb Food, Ambiance & Entertainmen Cons: Wasn't Able to Find Any more

New ownership and management.. Pros: try the green chili burger more

To set things straight 7/1/2009

I currently work at grand slam and I want to set a few things back in order. The previous management and some of the staff have been replaced! We are currently under new management who have turned this place around. We have all new flat screen tvs, bands on friday and saturday nights, and many more new fun activities to join. Our staff is very attentive to our guests and we strive to give nothing but the best of service. We have many regulars that we adore and we area always looking to make new friends. I know that some may not have had the best service here before but I encourage the discouraged to come give us another shot. Everything has been cleaned up and revamped including our service. We work hard and play hard here at Grand Slam. The kids are always welcome for lunch and dinner, then when it gets late is when the party starts. I hope to change some minds so that we can prove to be the best bar in town! Pros: New management, new staff Cons: the bad reviews from the past more

Worst restrauent in the world by far 1/14/2009

I went to eat there with my kids the other night, and for one i had to wait to be seated for like 10 minutes, they did not even have a host, and then they sat us next to the kitchen, and all i herd was mexicans cussing and i herd the waitstaff complaining about the tables she had, I am a server at a tavern so I know the restrauent business is, and it is unacceptable to hear your own waitstaff complain about you. Then when the food came out, my husbands food was missing, the waitress said his was just taking a little longer then expected, but I know she forgot to enter it in the computer, I mean he had a taco salad , worst service, and then when i complaine i had asked to speak to the manager, and "he was unavailable" but they were slow, no business in there... Pros: There is no pros Cons: bad service, bad hospility, bad food, and bad atmosphere more

not so much for the family! 8/24/2007

I recieved a coupon in the mail from the grand slam sports cafe. In it, it said it was friendly to familys. This was not true. My wife, son, and I all sat at a booth near the kitchen. Profanitys were yelled, followed by a loud slam. Afterword, since we were sitting so close. We overheard the servers discussing thier boss losing his temper "agian", because a new girl dropped somthing. For the atmosphere, not great. It seemed real run down and not taken care of. Prices seemed to be over the top for a place like this. They advertise an arcade.....well, this "arcade" includes maybe one in a half games. I say a half because non of the four games compltley work. Pros: tvs Cons: bad service, over priced food/drinks,dirty,run down, bathrooms stink, tvs at bar are to high/close hurts your neck more

Good food, friendly staff, fun sports bar atmosphere 9/13/2006

We have been going to Grand Slam off and on for years and have always had good service and good bar food. No this is not Del Frisco, but it doesn't claim to be either. I was amazed to read a previous review saying what horrible service they had and how bad the food is, we have always been seated promptly and treated very nicely by the various servers and hostesses we have dealt with. We have had to wait on food, drinks etc. at times, but only when it was very, very busy. It is much better there now too since the non-smoking ban went into effect in July. That was the only negative thing I ever would have said about the place in the past was the smoke smell in the building. I think it is a fun place to go with a group after work for drinks. Also, if you ever had a problem with the service there ask to speak with the manager, I know him and he would make anything right that you felt was wrong with the service. Give it another try! Pros: Good bar grub, nice friendly staff, prompt seating most nights Cons: Used to be the smoke but that's no longer an issue more

Great Sports Bar 7/3/2006

We have been going to Grand Slam for about 3 years now. It is a great sports bar. We love the crowd, the service, and the food. But the best thing is the people you will meet there. It's a really great crowd. I'm not sure when the other people came in that gave the bad review, but just like any restaurant, they are staffed for what they expect on that night. If they get busy and they didn't expect it, they can get overwhelmed, like any place. Friday evenings are the busiest times. There are a lot of people there for happy hour. Pros: great sports bar Cons: probably not the best family place more

Not worth the wait or money 1/24/2006

I hate to write bad reviews but this one has earned it. We were seated in the NON smoking portion of the restraunt The service was HORRIBLE. We waited forever for our waitress to come and greet us. We had to track down our waitress to get drinks. Our waitress was no where in sight when we wanted the bill. We figured out how much it cost and left cash INCLUDING a tip on the table. We gave GrandSlam another try due to the fact we felt our waitress was just busy and not having a good night. WE WERE WRONG. We experienced the same BAD service and our food was horrible. Our waitress accusing us of stiffing her the following week and yelled at us to never come back. I have never been treated so horribly. Pros: Lots of TVs, Kid Friendly Cons: food, Service, price more

Had A good Time At the Grand Slam 4/20/2005

If you want a good sports bar with very good but reasonably priced foo, this is your place. Nice crowd. TVs everywhere, lots of parking, near the Tech Center. We loved it! more
