Skippers is a long lasting legend for good reasons. The food is fantastic, good service, great bands and a great mixed crowd always.

Skipper's Smokehouse & Oyster is the best,unique! 8/25/2009

LOVE this place, too! It's been around forever and can't be beat when showing friends and family an authentic Tampa location. Very casual, good food and fun staff. Smoked mullet is good, as is everything else on the menu. Try the gator bites! more

LOVE this place 10/4/2008

Good food and great music, wonderful venue for a live band. We have been here many times to see live music and never disappointed- you wont find another place like this. Sit among huge trees outside and watch your favorite band, this place is always packed but never seems too crowded. Good food inside at their restaurant, they even serve gator ;) more

Curtis needs to catch up 7/8/2008

Skippers is every good thing that has been said by the other reviewers. But the main review by Curtis keeps talking about a sand dance floor. Man, if you think Skippers still has a sand dance floor, you have not been there in a long time. The only exposed dirt left is between the tables and the rest of the place has had a deck for as long as any regular can remember. Good service, GREAT food. Try the smoked mullet-hands down the best in Tampa Bay. It is a dry rub that, though it is a smoked fish, it is suprisingly moist, with a full flavor. It is served with a side of BBQ sauce that reminded us of the Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse NY (a national Landmark). Back tothe fish-The meat literally falls off the bone, and one fish with the two sides is a great meal. And a quick word about the hush-puppies-they melt in your mouth. Literally. Even the Ceasars salad was phenomenal. It was a perfect balance of greens and chicken, that left our salad expert speechless (and she has been with us for 11 years-I have never seen her rave about a salad like she did here. In 11 years.) On a Saturday night, the service was fast, food was hot and wait staff was very friendly. Of course, this isnt a "five star restauraunt", but for a place you can walk in with shorts and flip-flops, it deserves at least four stars. I have lived in Tampa for over 30 years and have visited Skippers on many occasions. You can always find a GREAT local band, good food, and a comfortable atmosphere for a night of fun! more

Great place for a fun casual night 10/25/2007

Go for the music, not the food. For first timers this place looks like it should be condemned. You can dress as casual as you want and no one will notice. They have very unusual bands that are always a lot of fun. I would highly recommend eating somewhere else before you get there. Just about everything is battered and deep fried. Heart attack in a paper tray. The onion rings are still good. Pros: Fun, fun, fun Cons: food, food, food more

Great live music! 11/14/2006

If you like the 'Grateful Dead', be sure to show up on Thursday nights for 'Uncle Johns Band' to do their thing! Ourdoor stage and picnic tables. Order your food and bring it outside. The food isn't going to win any awards, but a fun night out anyway. more

Thank God for Skippers 8/22/2006

The dirtier and older this place gets, the cooler it becomes. The Skipper Dome is \r THE BEST LIVE MUSIC VENUE IN TOWN. Great seafood and music menu draws a crowd every weekend. The blackened grouper rueben is the best thing on the menu, hands down. For this whisky drinker, there aren?t enough Irish ones available. Wednesday night is Reggae Night, don?t miss the $2 Red Stripes. The bathrooms outside are dirty and damp and make you feel like you?re at a public pool...use the ones by the bar. This is a great place for any hippie to hang out after work. The shows are a great variety. One of the most popular nights is Thursday when a Greatful Dead cover band plays. more

Skipper's Smokehouse 6/9/2004

Skipper's is the best place you can go for food, fun, and live entertainment. There's no need to get dressed up because this place is as down to earth as it could get! That makes it more comfortable than anywhere else I can think of. Every Wednesday is Reggae Night with Impulse (an AWESOME band) and every Thursday they have The Uncle John's Band playing Greatful Dead music! Other shows at the venue vary. Nevertheless... This eatery and bar is bar-none the most extremely fun place we have been to. We love the music, the variety, the sounds of old and new. The restaurant attracts all age groups and we are all happy to co-exist in a fun-filled atmosphere. The food: badly awesome, you can't go away hungry. Staff fun and perfect! WHAT ELSE IS THERE???   • Skipper's Smokehouse has been flying in the face of convention since 1980.  The Skipper's legacy began when Air Force buddies purchased what is now one of the hottest dining and music spots in the Tampa Bay Area. The catering department is operated at the capable hands of Vicky Dodds, who has been on board since 1980. Starting out, reluctantly, at the demand of some of our regular restaurant customers who wanted us to cater their wedding, we found a needed service we could provide. (As a side note, Tom White is a notary public and occasionally performs weddings for our customers). From full service catering with all the elegance a wedding or Bar Mitzvah may command, to casual parties on our deck outside in the Skipperdome, to simple delivery or pickup, we can do it all. To compliment our full service catering, Skipper's also offers our licensed Talent Agency to provide top quality entertainment including, but not limited to, live blues, jazz, reggae, Calypso, steel drums, fire-eating limbo dancers, Latin, zydeco, rockabilly, variety, D.J.'s, clowns, magicians, face painters, props and roaming entertainers.
