My wife and I were extremely disappointed with the Skidway Lake Motel.
Due to a death in her family, we were in the area for several days during the week after Labor Day. Our first impression of the motel was very positive. It seemed like a cute place. Because of the time we arrived, the couple who own it just left a key on the door, with a note to stop by later to check in.
That was the good part. Once we were in the room (which was really a small cabin) it was one disappointment after another. A light outside our window was on all night for no apparent reason (remember, we were in a cabin, so there were no other rooms around and the light was not adjacent to any parking lot). The owners had clearly only given the room a quick look after the last guests left, because although there were a coffee maker, sweeteners, and creamer, there was no coffee. Also, one of the two mugs had not been cleaned after a previous use (yuck!). Despite our being the only guests there, the hot water tank only supplied enough for one very brief shower.
The final straw was when we came back after a day out and found that nothing had been done to make up the room for our second night. Keep in mind that we were the only guests they had.
There aren't many hotels or motels in the area -- the closest are about 10 miles away -- but please, stay somewhere else.
