nice view 3/28/2006

People go to Skates for the wonderful waterfront view; it is worth it. This is a great destination for a romatic evening or a special occasion. The entrees are pricy. It has a vert meat-centric menu, but they are always willing to whip up something vegetarian and I have always found these creations to be tasty. more

Really Good Seafood - Unbeatable Views 12/15/2005

Skates on the Bay is literally on the Bay. We ate there on Dec 13th and the view of SF with Embarcadero Center lit for the holidays is just spectacular. When the new span on the Bay Bridge is complete, the view of it will be killer. I've eaten at Skates several times and the food is always great. The menu is dominated by seafood - salmon, ono, prawns, scallops, etc - but they offer poultry and beef as well. A great wine list, full bar, good staff. All-around a pleasurable dining experience every time. more

this is a nice play to go stakeing they have a nice backround and the area is really big and nice and it does not cost a lot of monye and it gave me a couple of hours of fun yeah i would go to this place again becasue it was great and i like it more

Great Views but Overrated Food 9/9/2005

Skates On the Bay is a special occasion restaurant place for a lot of people i know and I've just never understood it. The view is spectacular that's true. The service is acceptable. The food is really only okay. And ok food does not justify the prices on the menu. Also, the place is huge. I tend to prefer cozy environments otherwise i feel like I'm just one of the cattle. If you want great food and a great view, go to Trader Vic's in Emeryville. As and added bonus, your drinks come with parrots or tiki heads attached. Now THAT's how you celebrate a special occasion. more

Great view of the city 9/4/2005

Skates On The Bay is located in Berkeley off of the University exit. The restaurant is right on the shore next to the Berkeley pier. The view is amazing! You can see SF and the Goldent Gate Bridge while eating. The food is great here too although the prices are a little above average for me. Parking is always avaiable and the service is great! more

Skates restaurant is located by the pier at the Berkeley marina. They are right off the freeway so it's a very convenient location especially in Berkeley where parking is difficult to find. They have a parking lot so parking is not a problem. Their food is very good but we go there to enjoy the view while we eat. It has a beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge. more

Berkeley Marina Restaurant with Great Views 8/6/2005

Skates On The Bay, offers good food at typically high Bay Area prices with a great view of the San Francisco Bay. Patrons can easily see both the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges as well as the San Francisco Skyline from the dining room. Skates is located at the tip of the Berkeley Marina, near the Berkeley Pier. It has plenty of free parking on-site. Skates offers a full bar. The cuisine it serves is primarily seafood and surf-and-turf. Appeitizers at Skates are great. They offer crab cakes and macademia nut brie among others. They cost about nine dollars a plate, plus or minus a few bucks. The entrees at Skates are good as well. The last time I ate there I had the mahi mahi and was impressed. Entrees cost around $25. However, the portions are on the small side. I would recommend making reservations ahead of time, as it often gets very crowded. more

Great Food with A View 8/5/2005

I just love this place. They have an attractively decorated restaurant with such a beautiful view of the bay and the Bay Bridge. It's formal dining and a great place to go on a date. The food is good but it is really the view that makes it worth the trip. They also have this special place in the middle of the room where you can watch their chef bake bread. They are located in the Berkeley marina by the wharf. They have plenty of parking. more

Pricey food, but cannot beat the taste and the view. 8/5/2005

Great food.. great views of the bay and ocean. The bread is first rate, and they make it fresh, you can literally see the bakery and someone rolling the dough as you walk in. There are smaller tables by the bay windows that look out in to the sea, gets a little bright during sunset , but what a view! No problems parking.. there is a hughe parking lot just outside of teh resturant. This is park of the dock within a park, so the atmosphere outside is very soothing too, not some place bustling with other resturants. Make a reservation, the place was super crowded on Berkeley graudation day, it didn't help that some of the local high schools had their prom that day as well. It's great for that special occasion.
