No need to read the one star reviews- they aren't even talking about this place. Sing High has been in downtown forever, and they make great food at great prices! The staff are nice, and the family always make you feel welcome. I LOVE the Potstickers and Sing Hi fried rice! more

Family favorite for years 2/25/2010

We've eaten in the Chinatowns of Honolulu, Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary and San Francisco. Sing High is the typical, authentic Chop Suey House similar to the restaurants we've been in those cities. We've eaten @Sing High for 25+ years and have lots of fond memories of events we've enjoyed. Harlan and Karleen Lee are third generation owners and one of them always greets us and asks us if we enjoyed the food. The Chop Suey, Sing High Fried Rice, egg rolls and War won ton soup are all top favorites. I realize Americanized versions of Chinese foods with Panda Express, Pei Wei and others give people something different but if we're wanting the real thing, Sing High is consistently fabulous! Pros: authentic, family-style, delicious more

We were looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Phoenix and this is certainly not one of them. 9/28/2008

The food was bland. The egg rolls were not fresh and tasted ""old"". The chicken entrees were non-existent: there were no more than 2-3 pieces of chicken in either entree. The Cantonese style noodles were undercooked. Overall, it was a disappointment and an unpleasant dining experience...no return engagements for us. The search continues. more

Excellent, fast, cheap, fresh Chinese. 5/27/2008

I was very skeptical after reading all the reviews of people claiming Sing High is horrible, but I also read allot of very positive reviews. Since I work less than a 5 min walk from Sing High, I decided to take the leap of gastronomical faith and roll the dice on Sign High for lunch one day. While the Decor is definitely old school and no-frills, I was greeted promptly and seated immediately. A friendly waitress came and got my drink order, and I was given a nice large, fresh glass of ice tea immediately. On my way in, I glanced at the daily special and saw that it was Yu-Shan Pork. I decided that the daily special should be a good judge of the restaurant and ordered it with friend rice and added a egg roll. The massive egg roll came immediately and was piping hot, fresh out of the fryer. The egg roll was very good, with tasty fillings and lots of meat, albeit that the egg roll was slightly more greasy than I would have preferred. I enjoyed it with the sweet and sour and mustard that was brought with it. Within about 5 minutes, my Yu-Shan Pork was delivered, piping hot, steaming and fragrant. The dish was excellent, with tender strips of thinly sliced pork in a sweet and spicy brown sauce with lots of fresh vegetables, bell peppers, carrots, onions, and several kinds of mushrooms. My only complaint was that the fried rice was very basic and did not appear to have egg , green onion, or peas and carrots as I have come to love. Service was quick and attentive, and I was checked on several times during my visit. My bill came quickly and I was in and out in under 30 minutes, a near record for most downtown restaurants. Overall, a great place and I will be visiting much more often now. Pros: Service, Food, Price Cons: Ambience/Decor more

No so good 2/13/2008

Fantastic! 4/19/2007

I knew there was a ""higher being"" involved in my selection for jury duty in downtown Phoenix - ah yes - Sing High! I also knew that there had to be a very good reason why day after day there was a line of people WAITING to get into this place at the lunch hour rush. Bankers, lawyers, business professionals alike - the expense account crowd. Trust me, no expense account necessary to enjoy this blast from the past - thank God. I had my doubts having read some of the poor reviews here and at City Search, but don't be dissuaded by those cry babies that obviously don't understand the concept of ""regional Chinese"" cuisine. Just like in America, different parts of the country prepare different kinds of foods very differently. Luckily for those of us who enjoy both traditional as well ""over-priced gourmet"" Chinese food, Sing High stands out tall and proud. After all, YOU CANNOT SURVIVE FOR 70+ YEARS IN THE RESTAURANT BUSINESS BY PUTTING OUT CRAPPY FOOD - PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Pros: Steaming hot food, nostalgic surroundings, many regulars Cons: Downtown location more

Long Time Favorite! 4/10/2007

Our family has been going to Sing High since the late 70's and it's always been my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant in Phoenix. Some family friends of ours brought us here for dinner shortly after we moved from New York and we've been going there ever since. My favorite dishes have always been the chow mein, the egg drop soup and egg foo young. No, it isn't the fanciest place and it doesn't have ridiculous, upscale dishes like at P.F. Changs, but if you are looking for some good food with big portions and reasonable prices, this is the place. They have really good and large lunch combos and the ala carte portions are huge if you just want one item. Most of the waitresses have been there for years and are very nice, we miss Linda, who was there it seemed forever, she was our favorite server! And every so often, you'll see Harlan, the owner, or his mother, who seems to have a never ending pile of pea pods, sitting at a little single table next to the register counter. And we've always loved the gentlemen who sit out in the parking lot day after day keeping an eye out on the vehicles and making sure everything is ok. Very nice people and we appreciate their service and food. Pros: good food, prices, portions and service Cons: Don't get to eat there as much as we'd like! more

The Absolute worse indeed 12/15/2006

I moved to Phx 2 1/2 years ago and still cannot find good ole fashioned midwest/eastcoast Chinese food. I LOVE CHINESE FOOD!!! Pros: Good parking, prompt service Cons: Gross food, bad chicken batter, egg roll disgusting and size of burrito more

Great place for game night 5/24/2006

I went here before the Suns game and it was very good. The egg foo young reminds me of the best restaurants back home in Baltimore. That may not be a good indicator of their food, but I liked it a lot. Don't expect anything fancy. Just great food for great value at a great location (right down the block from US Airways Center. Pros: Taste, Tradition, Price Cons: Parking, Crowded at times more

True Chinatown Chow Mein 7/3/2005

The Cantonese Chow Mein is a true Chinatown Chow Mein, it's not for you ""picky"" chinese food eaters...It a true bit of Americana, since Chow Mein is a Chinese American Dish...The noodle soups are one of the only true ones you can find in Phoenix...You can see why it's a Phoenix mainstay for over 7 decades!!! Pros: Simple Food, Service, Friendly Cons: Parking at night more

Absolutely the WORST..... 11/6/2002

This is the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. Myself and two colleagues left 2/3 of the food that we ordered. If you are in the mood for a good Chinese lunch, take my advice and look elsewhere. more
