Gringo friendly, but excellently Mexican 4/21/2008

My husband and I eat here often, usually on Wednesday nights. For years we came every Wednesday so our kids could enjoy Magic Bob's tableside teaching of performance magic. He is still there, although the kids are grown now, but we still go back for their Chile Verde or Chile Colorado, beef tamales and (my favorite) crab enchiladas. The seasonings are rich, but not too hot for my sensitive tastes. The hot salsa, served with fresh hot chips, however, is vigorous enough for most any adventurous diner. They make great margaritas, and serve good dark beer, so we have to choose which one of us is going to drive home, but a night at Sierra's is one of our favorite date nights. Pros: Great food, friendly people, Magic Bob Cons: sometimes noisy. more

Best chips and salsa in the universe! 1/31/2007

This place has been around forever. (Literally decades.) In my opinion, one of the highlights of Mexican food in the valley. It is dark and cozy with big cheesy booths, the service is consistently good and the food is outstanding! They have the best chips and salsa ever!! I have never been for brunch, so I can not comment on that, but this is a regular favorite of ours, especially for happy hour (4-6 with cheap drinks and free food!!). Best carne asada burrito I've ever had. Enchiladas, tamales and chile rellenos...all amazingly good!! I would definitely recommend this place. Pros: Best chips and salsa ever, good service and fantastic food Cons: Maybe not the place to go for a light brunch? more

Stay Away 9/2/2006

Went with my wife for Sunday Brunch and after eating the salads, we paid the bill and left. The food was set out in stainless trays floating in oil with no signs to identify the choices, the salads were kept in a hot room with no ice around them, the refried beans were a mysterious greyish color, and the fajita beef was chewy. We're sticking to places like El Cholo or El Torito for Mexican food in this part of Los Angeles and if you're smart you'll do the same. Pros: None Cons: Dark and Unfriendly with oily, stale food. more

Good Family eating place 7/20/2006

This is a good place to eat with the family. The menu consists of different traditional mexican dishes such as burritos, tacos, tostadas, etc. but they also have things such as mole, chile colorado, and more. The salsa is excellent. If you are in the drinking mood, the drinks are pretty good too. They have a bar area- I am not too sure how the weekend nights are, but I have gone during week nights and it seems like an acceptable place to take the fam. Pros: nice waiters, good food Cons: the service could be a little faster more
