Shula's Steak House

I had called ahead to tell them it was my husband's birthday & they assured me that he would be greeted with a ""Happy Birthday"" and when it came time for the dessert menu he would receive a dessert. Well needless to say, we received nothing! My daughter ended up going to the hostess and she just handed her a tiny box with ""Happy Birthday"" scribbled on it w/marker. Very disappointing!! The food was good but pricey. Didn't appreciate that the tip was included in bill. Didn't appreciate being told what tip to give. Overall not extremely impressed more

Food was pretty good. Not sure the my 8 oz filet was worth $34. My boyfriend had to send his steak back b/c it was not cooked right. That was kinda of annoying since Outback can always get his rare steak right. I also did not appreciate the 20% added to my bill without any notification! My receipt from the meal did not include this! However, when I checked my bank account I noticed 20% added!! I called the restaurant who said they always do this and I would be refunded the amount in a few days?! They said it was just something they do! I will not be eating here ever again! I would have expected better! Food OK, service not! more

Very popular for a reason. This restaurant was suggested to us by a business client for the excellent service as well as a la carte steak menu....great city view from second story of the Westin downtown. Best service I have ever had at a restaurant anywhere--and my dad is a prof in hotel tourism management, so I've been around the block when it comes to restaurant service! Fliet Mingon was amazing--melt-in-your-mouth dreamy. While we are talking about mouth melting experiences..the chocolate lava cake creation was the perfect ending to a meal and a dining experience we tell everyone about! more

We had out of town visitors in for an event in Indy last weekend and we thought we were taking them to a nice restaurant. We had a part of 5 and they could not come up with a table large enough so we crammed onto a four-top with a seat on the end.\r \r This was followed by the drink order which consisted of two glasses of watered-down lemonade, which the waiter eventually got around to replacing with the real good overpriced stuff.\r \r The food was actually good, to our surprise (It had better been, considering the cost)., but when we were checking out, the waiter left us waiting, and waiting and waiting. Half of our party left before I could pay the check. The waiter said he didn't know we were ready to check out....right!\r \r So, in summary: Food 4-5 stars; Service 1-2 stars.\r \r Take your chances! more

i would like to start off by saying I really wanted to love this place. But the poor service. The complaining waiter (he was tired), and the dirty dishes we were served on, it was horrible. The burger was tasteless, the fries over fried...if that is possible! Then when we asked for a simple item such as salt, it was stuck in the shaker....all of it, it was that unclean! I would put Shula' below golden corral, at least they can wash their dishes! more

I am amazed and puzzled by the negative reviews of this restaurant. I can't believe that these other reviewers are even eating at the same restaurant as me. I dine with friends and family regularly here (at least once a month, if not more often). The food has always been hot and delicious. The steaks are the best in town in my opinion and I've eaten at all the other steakhouses in town. The steaks are tender, juicy, and flavorful. I can cut my filet mignon with a butter knife. The service has always been friendly and topnotch. Our favorite servers are Rolf, Kevin, and Marie but all the servers are older pros and not kids and take professional care of their guests. The great service we get, I've seen provided at the tables around us as well. Pros: Tender juicy flavorful steaks. Professional service. Lava cake. Free parking. Cons: Wish everyone had a menu instead of the tableside steak presentation. more

Shula's is by far the worse resturant that I have visited. The food lacked flavor. The service was slow and poor. The food was overpriced. There is no reason to return to this place. Stay away, save your money, buy some gas. Pros: Nice Ambience Cons: See comments more

My family and I (we have two young children) was going to go to Ruth Chris for lunch but they was not open so my husband suggested shula's When we first walked in the men at the desk looked at us like why would you bring kids in here? They said ""do you want a highchair or somrthing"" Then they werent that busy but they sat us right in the middle of the room surrounded by what looked like lunch meetings. Usually if you have kids most places will sit you over to the side somewhere out of the way lets face it kids are loud. The waiter didnt ask us if we have been their before or didnt offer to explain things about what came with the meals etc. so I started asking questions and he didnt act like he wanted to answer them I then asked if one of the childs meals could be split (I have a 3 year old and 1 year old) He said ""ive never seen it done) We asked for a shrimp cocktail he suggested something else and wouldnt let it go we told him 3 times no we want the shrimp cocktai The waiter didnt take our dirty dishes we had to ask the water boy to get them finally because the baby wouldnt leave them alone. It was an awful experience, the atmosphere was bad the staff was bad the meal was bad and it was way over priced. It was more than Ruth Chris and they have friendly servers the best steaks nice atmosphere and you dont mind paying for a good meal their because its a great experience has been every time. But when you throw your money away on an awful experience it kinda makes you sick when you think i could of filled up the gas tank. I have eaten at 3 diffrent Shula's and found not one worth my time. They all produced poor service and cold food. Save your money unless you feel a need to get upset. Cons: Service, Quality of Food, Price more

We went there for our anniversary. We had ordered new york steak cooked medium well. It came back undercooked less than medium. The waiter asked if I want to send it back I said yes. My husband just said he didn't need to even though he ordered it medium. The watier took my steak back and left my husband steak there with the side dish of spinach and I had to watch him eat. Time he finished and my steak came. The spinach was then cold and had to have my husband watch me eat. I had them box my steak up and took it home. Didn't get much apologetic out of them for the mistake. I feel that they should have took both dinners back, corrected the order so we could eat at the same time. The atmosphere and service was superb, but the food, especially the steak, was nothing special considering the upscale price tag. If you want service and surroundings second to none, I recommend this restaurant. Just don't expect a meal equal to the cost. Out of all the steak houses in Indy. Shula's has the best beef. It outranks St. Elmo's, Ruth's Chris and Mortons by far. The filet melts in your mouth. The loaded spuds are a meal in iteself. I have been to Shula's several times and each time the it has been to enjoy a large portion of good, aged red meat. Their portions are large and the atmosphere is complimentary to the fare. It reminds me of the good steak houses of chicago. The sides are good, not great but good and they have a decent wine list which fits the red meat atmosphere.
